PhilHealth to Launch Free Mammogram, Ultrasound Services for Women
In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be offering mammogram and ultrasound services for Filipino women starting in July this year.
According to a press release, the announcement was made by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez in a meeting with PhilHealth officials last Tuesday, March 12. The initiative aims to prioritize the health and well-being of Filipino women by giving them access to preventive care, said Romualdez.
“This is the best news we can give to the Filipino women, especially during Women's Month,” he added.
PhilHealth’s president and chief executive officer, Emmanuel Ledesma Jr., also shared that the agency is confident that the request for free health services for women will be carried out by July.
This follows the agency’s move to increase the “Z benefit package” for breast cancer patients from P100,000 to P1.4 million. It is also the government’s response to breast cancer being prevalent in the country, with 27,163 cases being reported annually.
