Pawssion Project: How Malou Perez Built a Haven for Neglected Stray Animals

Pawssion Project Founder Malou Perez Exclusive

Like us humans, every animal deserves to be loved, a place to call home, a family to nurture them, and a life free from fear and loneliness. Big or small, old or young, they should not have to face the world alone, scared and vulnerable, without knowing the comfort of a cozy bed to sleep in at night.

This is why Malou Perez, an animal lover from Bacolod, turned her lifelong passion into action. In 2018, she founded Pawssion Project, a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. Today, the organization has rescued thousands of stray animals and has launched numerous initiatives and projects to help take care of them.

In time for International Homeless Animals Day and National Aspin Day this August, The Beat Asia had the chance to talk to Malou about her journey as Pawssion Project’s founder, the joys and heartbreaks that come with it, and more.

From Passion to Pawssion: How Pawssion Project Started

“I’ve always wanted to put up a dog shelter, but it’s one of those dreams that’s just in my head — like a kid wanting to be an astronaut,” she said.

Before founding Pawssion Project, Perez quit her corporate job to focus on self-love and begin traveling and exploring her passions in life. This includes establishing Passion Project, an online business that raises awareness about the use of single-use plastics.

It was this journey of self-love that led her to extend a helping hand to stray animals in need. As if fate allowed, it was during this period that she found a Facebook post about 50 dogs from the Bacolod City Pound who were scheduled to be killed. This was when she knew that rescuing these dogs and turning her dream into a reality was what she was meant to do.

“I always feel like the opportunity to save the dogs came at the right time. If I had seen the post about the dogs on death row at the pound while I was still doing a regular corporate job, I probably wouldn’t have jumped to the conclusion of saving them and putting up a shelter for them because there was no time to do it. I wasn’t emotionally ready for that.”

“I believe everything happens for a reason, and I was prepared for that. I feel like Pawssion Project is really in my book, and it was meant for me. All I had to do was say yes to it,” she added.

Thanks to her friend, Manang Jen, she also found a place to take care of these animals, which would eventually be the home of Pawssion Project.

Six years later, Pawssion Project has already rescued over 2,000 dogs and cats, rehomed over 1,000, and is currently sheltering about 700 dogs and cats in its Bacolod and Bulacan shelters. But it doesn’t stop there. With the help of social media, Malou and Pawssion Project have been raising awareness about the realities that stray animals face.

The Joys and Heartbreaks of Being a Rescuer

Establishing Pawssion Project also meant that she had to give up a lot of things, like spending time with her family and friends and traveling. But more than anything, the most painful thing for Malou about this venture is seeing more and more neglected animals suffering and barely surviving.

“[The hardest part is] the heartbreak every day. Losing rescues, dealing with all the reports every day, receiving hundreds of reports of animal cruelty, of abandonment, people wanting to surrender their pets to you, it’s just very heartbreaking,” she shared.

Amid all the mental, emotional, and physical stresses that she has experienced taking this path, Malou chooses not to give up but to work even harder to be able to support these strays.

"How do I deal with everything? I ask myself why I’m doing this. I don’t think there are a lot of people who are living life with a sense of purpose. I feel very fortunate to be living a purposeful life. I feel like I would be so ungrateful to just let go of this one.”

Pawssion Project Foundation's Founder, Malou Perez

On what makes her work at Pawssion Project rewarding, Malou said, “You just feel that sense of gratitude that you’re given that chance to be a part of their journey, to actually save and change a life.”

“Just seeing the rescues running around, playing at the shelter, and going to good homes, it gives you that immeasurable joy that money can never buy."

Another thing that gives Malou joy is how Pawssion Project is able to inspire other people, in a lot more ways, to look out for animals.

“How often can we actually have that chance of making an impact in the lives of people that we don’t know? I feel so lucky that I’m just doing something I’m very passionate about, and then I realize, in the end, so many animals are actually getting the help that they need because people are inspired by the work that we do.”

How You Can Help

Beyond reporting cases of neglected strays to rescuers, Malou calls out to the public to help these animals in their own capacity, whether it’s by donating to shelters, adopting, volunteering, or simply advocating animal welfare through their platforms.

“You can do it. You may feel so overwhelmed, but I believe each and every one of us has the capacity to save and change a life. Of course, we’re more than willing to help and assist in any way possible, but there’s no way we can rescue every dog and cat in need; that’s why we need the help of everybody in the community."

At the end of the day, one animal is one life. It does not take having a heart of gold to help abandoned stray animals, but simply turning compassion into action goes a long way.

Low-Cost DIY Christmas Gifts Cause It's the Thought That Counts

Low Cost Holiday Gift Guide

While the holiday season is often synonymous with all things grand, your gift doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful. In fact, some of the most memorable Christmas presents are the ones that cost little to nothing, because they’re made with time, care, and genuine heart.

If you’d rather pour your creativity into making something special than rush through crowded stores, or if you simply want to give a gift that feels truly personal, thoughtful, and one-of-a-kind, you still can… even if Christmas is only a few days away.

Here are some no-cost or low-cost gift ideas that prove it really is the thought that counts.

Christmas Cards

Christmas Cards
Photo from Website/Papemelroti

There’s something undeniably special about receiving a handwritten card during the holidays. In a world where messages are usually typed and sent in seconds, a letter crafted by hand feels deeply personal and intimate. It’s a tangible piece of someone’s heart — something you can hold, reread, and keep for years. A simple, low-cost gift that carries the kind of sincerity and warmth no store-bought item can replace.

To get started on your Christmas cards, you’ll only need paper and a pen. If you want to elevate it, use decorative sheets, such as scented paper, colored stationery, or metallic pens, to add flair. You can also pick up inexpensive store-bought cards like pop-ups or illustrated Christmas cards and personalize them with your own handwritten message inside. A few thoughtful sentences can turn even the simplest card into a keepsake.

You can find beautifully designed Christmas cards and stationery in local bookshops or in specialty stores like Papemelroti and Typo.

Memory Scrapbook

Scrapbooks
Photo from Website/Papemelroti

Scrapbooks are like handwritten letters, but on steroids. A Memory Scrapbook is one of the most meaningful gifts you can present to a loved one — a collection of shared moments, whether that’s photos, notes, or tiny mementos that tell the story of your bond.

With everyone on social media, photo albums are often just uploaded and posted, and often never seen again — buried deep in your timelines that refresh every few seconds. Scrapbooks make these captured memories feel more personal and intimate. It’s something someone can flip through slowly, reliving laughter, milestones, and small everyday moments that matter.

You don’t need anything fancy to get started. A simple notebook or leftover blank journal works perfectly. The fun part is gathering photos, printed screenshots, old receipts, ticket stubs, and even handwritten quotes and inside jokes.

In decorating your scrapbook, you can make use of any art supplies that you have on hand, like colored pens, markers, washi tapes, and even scraps of paper, which makes it an eco-friendly gift idea.

If you want to elevate it, choose a nicer scrapbook from your local bookstore or craft shop, and personalize each page with small captions or doodles. Even if you're short on time, a few thoughtful pages can make anyone’s day this season.

Jar of Good Wishes

Jars

We all remember Elle Woods’ “Snap Cup,” where participants write and share positive affirmations. Think of the Jar of Good Wishes as its Christmas version, where you can put in tiny notes scribbled with encouragements, affirmations, memories, or simply reasons why you appreciate someone.

More than the season of giving, Christmas is also about remembering what you’re most grateful for, and this little gift packs a huge emotional impact, something the receiver can pull out whenever they need a little warmth.

A Jar of Good Wishes is inexpensive and easy to make. All you need is a clear jar or container — a perfect way to recycle those empty jam and cookie jars — and some scrap paper. Make your notes short and sweet. They can be good wishes for the coming year, reminders of their strengths and what makes them awesome, short anecdotes of your favorite shared memories, or simple “I love you because…” moments. After writing them, fold them neatly and drop them into the jar until they’re filled.

We recommend using varying colored papers to make it more decorative. You can also tie the jar with a festive ribbon, slap on some stickers, or create a handwritten label.

Sentimental Ornaments

Christmas Ornament

Another heartfelt gift idea is Sentimental Ornaments, which give home décor a whole new meaning. These ornaments are little reminders of a memory, a milestone, or a shared moment. They can represent a hobby, a trip, a first Christmas together, or an inside joke. They’re especially meaningful because they aren’t just placed on the tree; they’re tied with stories, emotion, and connections that grow with time.

There are many ways in which you can create your own Sentimental Ornaments. You can use simple materials like spare ribbons, buttons, old keychains, or small trinkets. Glue or tie them onto a piece of sturdy string, twine, or a metal hook. If you want to make a photo frame ornament, simply paste your photo on the back of cardboard, decorate it with some ribbons, glitter, and stickers, then place a small hole at the top for the string and hook.

An elevated idea would be to buy clear ornament bubbles, which you can fill with handwritten notes, dried flowers, or tiny keepsakes. You can also personalize store-bought ornaments like Christmas balls and holiday snowflakes by adding the recipient’s name, an important date, adorable drawings, or a short message. Even the simplest ornament can become special when it carries a story.

Homemade Wax Melts

Wax Melts
Photo from Website/Wholesale Supplies Plus

If you want to give something that feels luxurious without being expensive, Homemade Wax Melts is the way to go. These fill the room with warmth and comfort, turning any space into a cozy retreat. As you will be choosing the scent and even the mold to shape it, it feels more thoughtful and personal compared to store-bought candles. It’s a gift that says: “This scent reminds me of you” or “I wanted to make your home smell like something you’d love.”

For this gift, you only need leftover candle wax, old, scented candles, or affordable wax flakes or pellets. These are readily available in home department stores or specialty décor shops like Raw Essentials PH, which sells wax flakes and pellets, as well as other materials for this DIY project, like candle jars and liquid dyes.

Melt the wax in a heat-safe container using a double-boiler setup — meaning heating the bowl over a pot of hot water. Add a few drops of your preferred essential oils or dried herbs for fragrance. If you’re looking to give it for Christmas, we recommend holiday scents like peppermint or cinnamon.

Next is to pour the melted wax into molds to set. There are plenty of fun and playful silicone molds you can find in craft and baking stores. If you want to keep it simple, you can even use regular ice trays. To add flair, mix in dried flowers, ground cinnamon, or sprinkle a little colored wax and glitter for decoration. Once they’re solid, pop them out and wrap them in small paper bags or repurposed jars.

Iron-On Patches

Iron-on patches

If you’re not big on arts and crafts, there are other inexpensive but personalized gifts that you can give. One of them is iron-on patches, a fun and creative way to give old clothes or accessories new life. Have an old jacket lying around? A plain tote bag that can still be used for your shopping escapades? A simple patch can instantly transform these items into something unique and personal. Whether it’s a design that represents a memory, a hobby, a favorite symbol, or even the recipient’s initials, patches turn everyday items into wearable memory.

Iron-on patches are available in craft stores, thrift shops, and online stores like Common Room PH. No sewing is needed as you will literally iron them on directly onto the clothes or accessory. Simply place the patch where you want it, cover it with a thin cloth, and press with the iron for a few seconds until it sticks.

It’s a great way to make use of pre-loved items like old denim jackets, tote bags, caps, or pouches — giving them a fresh and customized look that feels brand new.

Self-Care Kit

Self-Care Bundle

This holiday season, show your loved ones you care by giving them a gentle reminder to slow down, breathe, and take care of themselves. A self-care kit is something everyone needs, especially during the busy holiday season. It’s thoughtful, personal, and shows that you’ve taken time to consider what might bring them comfort. Whether it’s a friend who’s been stressed or a partner who deserves pampering, this gift idea sends the message: “You matter, please take a moment for you.”

Self-care packages don’t have to be luxurious to be useful and meaningful. Start with a small box, pouch, or basket that you already have. Fill it with items that you know they’ll appreciate: tea bags or drip coffee pouches, a handwritten affirmation, a Spotify playlist QR code, a face mask, a small candle, or bath salts. You can also include their favorite snacks, their favorite quote printed on paper, a good book, or a warm pair of fuzzy socks.

You can elevate this gift by adding a personalized note or card explaining each item, or decorating the box with ribbons and stickers.

SECONDSPRING® Launches New Protein Supplement to Support Menopause Symptoms

20251029 secondspringPhoto by SECONDSPRING®

This World Menopause Awareness Month shines a light on an important yet rarely discussed health crisis: the prevalent silence around menopause that is negatively impacting Filipino women.

A survey of women in Metro Manila found that 83% of respondents experience menopausal symptoms, while other studies mention that the majority of women do not seek medical help. Experts link this to a deeply rooted cultural silence where menopause is dismissed as a natural phase, rather than one requiring medical and emotional support.

A Cultural and Systemic Health Gap

A publicity material with charts on perimenopause
Photo from Instagram/SECONDSPRING®

Menopause usually starts at age 48 years for Filipino women, meaning that they spend more than a third of their lives in post-menopause. But the social discomfort and the Filipino attitude of pagtitiis (forbearance) often keep women from seeking necessary care.

Calls for specialized menopause clinics have also struggled to gain traction. Despite calls from major medical bodies such as the Philippine Society of Climacteric Medicine and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, efforts for establishment have been hampered by a lack of support, limited training, and hesitancy in prescribing menopause hormone therapy.

The lack of accessible care has long-term consequences. Research shows that 70% of women are unaware of their increased risk of osteoporosis, and 88% are unaware of its link to heart disease, the leading cause of death among women in the country.

Recognizing this gap and need for specialized midlife nutrition, SECONDSPRING®, a new Philippine-based wellness brand, launched its Premium Women’s Blend, SECONDSPRING Premium Isolate + Collagen — a unique protein supplement specifically formulated for women navigating perimenopause and menopause.

The blend combines whey protein isolate for lean muscle maintenance, VERISOL® bioactive collagen peptides for skin and hair health, and essential vitamins and minerals, including C, D3, B12, calcium, and magnesium.

“Filipino women often endure this transition quietly — to just deal with it without complaint — ‘tiis lang,'” said SECONDSPRING® Founder Jasmin Vinculado. “But staying silent doesn’t serve anyone. Women are living 30+ years post-menopause, and our bodies have specific nutritional needs during this transition. SECONDSPRING® is about giving women the targeted support they need to stay strong, healthy, and energized. This is about thriving in transition and making it our best life chapter yet.”

SECONDSPRING® is also the first Philippine brand accredited with MTick®, the global symbol for menopause-friendly products, recognizing evidence-based wellness solutions that meet international standards.

Co-Founder Carlos Vargas said, “We are not just selling a supplement; we are giving women a tool to reclaim their strength, challenge the cultural taboo, and celebrate this incredible transition.”

Redefining Midlife Wellness

The message is clear: Menopause is not a battle to be fought alone or an inevitable decline to be endured helplessly. By acknowledging the symptoms, seeking appropriate support, and being proactive about specific nutritional needs during perimenopause and menopause, women can take decisive action in preparing for an exciting new chapter in life.

Belle de Jour Power Planner Celebrates 20 Years with ‘Big Dreams Journey’

Beloved planner brand, Belle de Jour (BDJ), is reinventing itself for its 20th anniversary with the introduction of “Big Dreams Journey” — an empowering journal set that will help you start making those big dreams a reality.

Rooted in the Dreampowerment System of tools, workshops, and community, the Big Dreams Journey brings together the Vision Board Kit, Dreampowerment Journals, and the brand’s iconic PowerPlanner — each designed to help guide dreamers from vision to action, and from inspiration to transformation.

The launch was held last Oct. 8, 2025 at the Astbury in Makati City, marking BDJ’s milestone evolution from a simple planner brand into a purpose-driven movement that continues to inspire a new generation of dreamers.

“We’re expanding what we’ve always stood for,” said Darlyn Ty-Nilo, Founder of BDJ. “For 20 years, the planner has been our foundation. Now, we’re building on that legacy by offering more tools, more experiences, and more ways to help people live their dreams.”

Big Dreams Journey will also be rolling out new Dreampowerment experiences, from goal-setting challenges and community Spark Sessions to journaling and visioning workshops, all of which are designed to turn reflection into action and dreams into reality. Additionally, the set comes with the 2026 BDJ 20th Edition, a beautiful new journal that celebrates two decades of stories, milestones, and dreams.

“Dreams aren’t meant to be pursued alone,” the founder added. “They flourish in the community. That’s what Big Dreams Journey is all about: creating spaces where each person’s growth fuels another’s courage to dream. If the first 20 years were about empowering people to plan their dreams, the next phase is about supporting them in truly living their dreams. Our North Star is no longer just putting out a planner year on year; we’re in the business of supporting dreams and taking action and steps towards them. That’s the legacy we want to carry forward.”

From its first planner launch to its annual BDJ Fairs, BDJ has evolved into a cultural touchstone for a generation redefining ambition, self-worth, and intentional living. Through the years, it has expanded beyond planners to include vision boards, guided journals, affirmation decks, workshops, and Dreampowerment challenges, turning the act of planning into a joyful, creative journey of self-discovery and life design.

Pawsitive Living: Here are Five Things Every Pet Needs

5 Needs of a Happy Pet

In the Asia-Pacific region, more than half of people (59%) have a pet in their home, with the Philippines having the highest dog ownership ratio — 67% or two-thirds of all households owning one or more dogs. On the flip side, 42% of Filipinos own cats, making it clear that the Philippines is one of the most animal-loving nations.

But beyond being adorable companions, pets are more than just animals; they are family, and with that comes the responsibility of proper care.

Global leader in pet health nutrition, Royal Canin, just launched a children’s storybook designed to nurture empathy, understanding, and responsible pet ownership among families and young readers in the Philippines.

Welcome Home, Rocky & Charlie!” is more than just a story, but a delightful way to instill values and good habits among children who are looking to adopt pet companions. Through this story, we learn everyday lessons that allow families to understand what it truly means to welcome pets into their home and how it goes beyond just playtime and cuddles.

“Responsible pet ownership is about more than just meeting basic needs,” shared Ann Madelene Garcia, Pet Specialty Retail Head at Royal Canin Philippines. “It’s about recognizing the unique personalities of our pets, providing the right nutrition, and creating an environment where they feel safe and loved. By teaching these values early, we empower families, especially young children, to make informed decisions and build lasting bonds with their pets.”

During the launch, we also got to listen to Kitsie Torres, DVM, Scientific Communications Manager and Vet at Royal Canin, who taught us about the things our pets need to live long, happy, and healthy lives. Here’s what we’ve learned:

Top 5 Needs of Happy Pets

Food & Water

As with any living being, nutrition is the top fundamental need for our pets. Kitsie mentioned how pets need to have access to fresh water throughout the day and are to be fed thrice (puppies and kittens) or twice (adults) a day, depending on their health needs and activity level.

Royal Canin’s “Start of Life” range offers tailored nutritional solutions for puppies and kittens, with products focusing on particular needs at each stage of growth. If you’re adopting a dog or a cat for the first time, you’ll most likely come across this brand on your first visit to the clinic or pet shops, as it’s been trusted by the pet industry as a reliable and nutritious pet food brand.

Pet bowls and feeders are also some of the first things you need to get upon adopting a pet. Ceramic and stainless steel bowls are popular among pet owners. Local brand Ollie has double-walled stainless steel bowls that keep water cooler for 20% longer than the average dog bowl. These bowls are also available in a range of colors and can be customized with your pet’s name! You can find them at their official online store on at their flagship store in BGC.

Food doesn’t just mean everyday meals. It’s also about keeping your pet’s appetite healthy and their relationship with food positive. A little reward goes a long way, especially during training, and what better way to encourage good behavior than with treats? Just be mindful of when you give them, as offering treats before meals could spoil their appetite.

Special milestones, like birthdays, can also be celebrated with pet-friendly cakes made just for your fur babies. And since it can get quite warm in the city, hydration is key. Make sure your pets always have access to fresh water, and for an extra treat, you can whip up refreshing fruit shakes to help them cool down during the summer months.

Shelter & Comfort

Taking home a pet either from a trusted breeder or through adoption at animal shelters takes a lot of responsibility as you’re giving these animals a forever home.

One of the first things you need to prepare before taking your pet home is their comfort zones, such as crates for dogs and towers and caves for cats. Although most would allow their pets to run around their homes freely, it’s still important that your pets have a space for themselves — a haven that caters to their instincts.

For pets with special needs, such as those requiring orthopedic support, specialized products can make a huge difference in their comfort and well-being. Orthopedic beds and supportive harnesses like those from local brand, Dogly Orthopedics, are designed to ease pressure points and reduce discomfort, ensuring your furry pals stay happy and cared for.

Cat

Vet Care

One of the most important things you need to do as a pet owner is to register your pet with a vet clinic near you. Puppies and kittens need a lot of care in their early years, so expect to frequent the vet for their vaccinations and check-ups.

Pet owners are usually given a record book, which logs their pet’s shots and medications so it’s important to keep this on hand whenever you visit.

Check-ups and pet medications can be just as expensive as our own hospital bills, so we encourage fur parents to look into pet insurance like Life by Petto to have a financial safety net for unexpected veterinary costs.

Play & Exercise

Beyond the essentials for survival, pets also need play and exercise to stay healthy. Without enough activity, they risk obesity, which can negatively affect their overall well-being, making them more prone to suffer from diseases like metabolic disorders, joint problems, diabetes, and even cardiac and respiratory problems. Regular exercise not only keeps them fit but also stimulates their minds, prevents boredom, and reduces stress. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to strengthen your bond with your furry companions.

Take your dogs for a walk around the neighborhood or play a game of fetch in the park. For cat owners, stimulate your feline’s hunter instincts by using cat toys like stuffed mice or stick toys with feathers. Additionally, you can also explore pet-friendly destinations in the city. There are plenty of fun ways to keep your pets active and happy!

Dog Running

Love & Attention

Beyond providing food, shelter, and basic care, pets thrive when showered with love and affection. Emotional health matters just as much as physical health. When pets feel loved and bonded with their owners, it can translate into better immunity, reduced stress, and even longer lives.

Central to this bond is oxytocin, the so-called “love hormone,” which has been shown in dogs to increase social bonding and support well-being. So yes, give your pets their basic survival needs, and make time for cuddles, walks, and playtime, because the emotional connection you build doesn’t just feel good, it helps them live healthier, happier lives.

There are plenty of ways to show love for your pets that go beyond providing essentials. There’s giving them baths, shopping for cute accessories, or even getting matching clothes.

From Him, to Him: Brovage Opens Its Ultra-Luxury Clinic for Men

20251006 BrovagePhoto by The Beat Asia

Men have found a new haven for all things sexual health and wellness, all housed under one luxurious roof: Brovage. Gone are the days when men were boxed into one specific version of what it means to be a man. Today’s men are redefining masculinity. As the men behind this luxurious clinic suggest, men are becoming more and more banidoso (vain), but in the best way possible. So, creating a space where men can confidently seek out tailored care for their specific needs has been this clinic’s primary goal, delivering personalized care — from him, to him.

Nestled in the heart of Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Brovage serves as the Philippines’ first-ever luxury medical clinic created exclusively for men, specializing in sexual health, aesthetic urology, and advanced wellness treatments. The clinic is led by Chief Executive Officer and sexual dysfunction expert Dr. Frederick Mendiola, who — together with Dr. Z’Shen Teo and Dr. Alan Tan — brought this dream to life, intending to help men regain their confidence and become the best versions of themselves.

Regarding the meaning behind Brovage, Mendiola told The Beat Asia that they even hired someone to come up with a simple yet impactful name. “The meaning of Brovage is ‘Brothers, Vitality in Age.’ That means, any age group is welcome here.” For them, Brovage is more than just a clinic — it's a brotherhood. It's about helping men reclaim their power. And every man is welcome, regardless of age.

A Discreet Haven for Him

While the world has been slowly dismantling harmful ideations of masculinity, the stigma surrounding men seeking aesthetic or sexual care is still prevalent. That’s why Mendiola, Teo, and Tan (medical leaders from Singapore and the Philippines) conceived a space for men where their needs are addressed discreetly, in a place that feels like a secret. The three world-class doctors carefully selected a location nestled on the second floor of the W High Street Building — all without flashy signage or a very public display of branding. The clinic’s magic lies within, where guests are greeted by a lush interior and a bar that adds an extra layer of comfort and hospitality.

During its grand opening last Sept. 30, 2025, hosted by Paolo Abrera, the event was graced by VIP guests, including Dr. Aivee Teo, actor Jake Cuenca, model and actor Victor Basa, and professional basketball player Anthony Semerad, among others. But the true star of the evening was, of course, the clinic itself. Brovage’s interior remains true to the clinic’s mission: providing men with a refined space. Brovage, however, is more than just a luxurious clinic. What it truly offers is medical services focused on men’s sexual health and wellness, complete with cutting-edge machines and treatments. And its approach extends beyond sexual health, too.

The clinic also provides longevity and wellness treatments, such as bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, mental health assessment, and medical acupuncture, as well as male aesthetics and aesthetic urology, including hair treatments, facial, butt enhancement, and more. Overall, the clinic’s goal is to empower men to take control of their health, their performance, and their lives.

“Brovage is a one-stop shop for men — for face, body. It’s a safe space for men,” said Mendiola. “Brovage is not a conventional clinic or hospital. We purposely did that because we want them to feel relaxed the moment that they step into our clinic.”

The idea for Brovage emerged from the sudden realization that men are increasingly becoming vain. “A lot of men are actually becoming vain. Before, men seeking consultation were only 20%. Recently, there's been an increase in the percentage,” Mendiola explained. “About sexual dysfunction, halos wala talagang nagpapatingin (there's hardly anyone getting checked) because of the stigma and our society.”

Brovage wasn’t conceived solely to provide men with a safe, judgment-free space. Its mission goes beyond supporting the brotherhood. Mendiola added: “Our goal is to actually educate Filipinos that sex is not taboo and that it’s very important, especially if you’re getting older.”

Brovage Offers Top-Tier Care

Brovage’s goal is all encapsulated in five pillars: “Reclaim Your Strength on Your Terms,” “Feel Powerful in Every Part of Life,” “Look as Sharp as You Feel,” “Redefine Aging Unapologetically,” and “Restore Confidence Where It Matters Most.” Its goal is to open the minds of Filipinos about sexual health. While Filipinos are becoming more open about the intimate aspects of their lives, sex remains arguably a taboo topic in the country. A mere mention of it is still often met with laughter — or worse, disapproval. Brovage aims to change that, especially for men who continue to feel shame around their sexual health and other deeply personal concerns.

During the grand opening, Teo shared the story of how Brovage came to be. “We all have our own issues, but we don’t want to say anything,” said Teo. “So where do people go? That’s the question. That’s the question I pose to Erick (Dr. Mendiola): ‘Erick, when are we going to do something for the brotherhood?’ They need to have a place where they can get answers.”

Of course, Brovage is nothing without the minds of the three men behind it, offering expertise and years of experience in their respective fields. To book an appointment, you only need to follow three easy steps: choose the service you need, schedule a private consultation, and confirm your appointment through the secure checkout. The services Brovage offers are as follows:

Ladies, Don’t Let Your Red Days Ruin Your Confidence and Make Life Hard

20250925 ModessPhoto by Modess

Real talk: Your period shouldn’t dictate the rhythm of your entire month.

For too long, we’ve been taught to accept that having cramps, fatigue, and discomfort is normal — as if it were the price of being a woman. But here’s the truth: it doesn’t have to be that way.

Yes, the menstrual cycle is natural and essential to every woman’s life, but it doesn’t have to mean pain, uncertainty, or disruption. With the right care, your period week can feel just as manageable and empowering as any other.

That’s where menstrual care comes in starting with something simple, yet vital, as choosing the right pad.

On Sept. 4, 2025, Modess gathered women, advocates, and health experts for the Modess Comfortverse, a lifestyle and wellness event designed to rethink what menstrual care should feel like — empowering, reliable, and gentle. Between candid conversations, practical wellness tips, and a hands-on exploration of Modess’ hypoallergenic line, the afternoon unfolded as both a celebration and an empowering re-education of menstrual health.

Speakers and representatives gathered for a photo during the Modess Comfortverse

After all, our earliest lessons about the female body often taught us to see pain as inseparable from womanhood. The Modess Comfortverse challenged to change that narrative — and to prove that periods don’t have to mean suffering.

The afternoon opened with a powerful question from Ms. Isa Lacson-Ruiz, Franchise Lead for Feminine Care and Skin Health at Kenvue Philippines. “If it’s made for the most intimate part of our body, shouldn't it be the gentlest thing you wear?” Everyone’s resounding 'Yes' set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, one filled with enthusiasm to change the narrative on menstrual care.

At the heart of the event was Modess’ campaign, simple yet strikingly relevant: “Feel the Gentle Power of Modess.” No woman should ever have to choose between protection and comfort especially on her red days. “Through this campaign, we’re advocating for menstrual care that doesn’t just protect,” Ms. Isa Lacson-Ruiz added. “Our hypoallergenic top sheet is also a promise of comfort, especially where women need it the most.”

Taboo No More: Talking About What’s Normal

Speakers talk about vaginal health and skincare

At the event, medical experts opened conversations long considered taboo — from menstrual cycles to vaginal health — reframing these topics as essential parts of women’s health and wellness.

To set the record straight, OB-GYN Dr. Kristine Tangco explained that a normal menstrual cycle occurs every 21 to 35 days, with an average of 28. “If you get your menses before 21 days, that’s too frequent. If you get it after 35 days, that’s too long,” she shared. “So, you have to go see your OB-GYN and get yourself checked.”

She also emphasized that menstruation could look different for everyone; some bleed for just three to four days, while others up to seven. And for those wondering how to gauge their flow, she suggested tracking it through the number of pads they use in a day. “An average woman uses three to four regular pads a day.”

When it comes to period pain, Dr. Tangco explained that it’s normal to feel a bit of dysmenorrhea. But if cramps are severe enough to need constant pain relievers or a trip to the emergency room, that’s when it’s time to consult your OB-GYN.

Caring for Down There

Speakers talk about menstrual care, wellness tips, and more.

Our intimate area needs consistent care, especially on red days. That means practicing good hygiene and changing pads regularly — a step that many might skip because of busy schedules. Dr. Tangco emphasized the importance of changing frequently. “We might change our pads every four to six hours, but you know your body best,” she said. “If your flow is heavier, change more often.  At night, because menstrual flow slows down, it’s enough to change twice: once before bed and again after six to seven hours.”

And because it requires constant care, it’s also one of the most sensitive areas of our bodies. In fact, it’s even more sensitive than our faces! Choosing hypoallergenic products is the best way to care for that area down there, to keep it cool, dry, and protected from infection or irritation.

Think about it this way: if you’re very careful about the products you use on your face, shouldn’t you use safe products for your intimate area too? As Dr. Kristine Tangco always advises her patients, “Use products that you would use for your babies.”

Adding to this, dermatologist Dr. Ayees Mendoza echoed the importance of choosing the right products: “No matter what your age is, it’s important to choose hypoallergenic products because they’re fragrance-free, breathable, and made from gentle materials.”

Lifestyle personality and body positivity advocate Ayn Bernos also agreed, sharing how her feminine care choices were influenced by her skin sensitivity. “I always thought that irritation and itchiness were just a part of it. But it doesn’t have to be uncomfortable all the time,” she shared. “Irritation doesn’t have to happen every single month; I can be protected but still be comfortable.”

Menstrual care isn’t about choosing between comfort and protection — it’s about having both, even in the most sensitive times of the month. More than just a pad, Modess stands as a quiet but powerful ally, helping women move with confidence and focus on what truly matters — worry-free, and without compromise.
