Today, there’s a ton of BL content to consume, specifically TV and web series that can tug at anyone’s heartstrings.

Cherry Magic Thailand (2023)

Genre: Comedy, Office Romance, Drama | 12 Episodes
Thailand recently became the first SEA country to legalize same-sex marriage, so we believe it deserves to be celebrated by adding another Thai BL to this list. In “Cherry Magic,” 30-year-old virgin, Achi (New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun), suddenly gains mind-reading abilities through touch. When he accidentally reads his colleague Karan’s (Tawan Vihokratana) thoughts, he learns that the office golden boy has feelings for him. Bewildered by the discovery, Achi attempts to distance himself to prevent his colleague from falling for him.
This BL remake contains the same charm and “cherry” sweetness of the original Japanese series, featuring a storyline that centers on kindness, acceptance, and gaining self-confidence. A romantic comedy with a dash of magic, this series will have you smiling and kicking your feet at their cute interactions, rooting for the characters from start to end.

Given (2019)

Genre: Animated, School Romance, Drama | 11 Episodes
Anime is a treasure trove for BL shows and the sixth feature on this list is known to have made waves in the genre as the first BL anime to air on NoitaminA, FujiTV’s anime programming block — a place where usually big-name titles are aired.
Based on the manga of the same name by Natsuki Kizu, “Given” follows the story of two high school boys Mafuyu Sato and Ritsuka Uenoyama, and how they grow closer through the formation of their band. Ritsuka, a talented guitar prodigy has lost his passion for music. He first meets shy Mafuyu on the steps of the school hallway where he catches him clutching a beautiful guitar. He then learns the Mafuyu is unable to play it and gets roped into teaching him.
More than just a love story, “Given” is a touching tale of grief, passion, and acceptance, setting it apart from other BL anime shows out there. Its plot may be simple, but it showcases well-rounded queer characters experiencing the complexities of relationships. It’s a story about the power of music, interwoven with themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Speaking of music, the anime has a fantastic soundtrack with some amazing songs you won’t soon forget!
