The Khorat Geopark in Nakhon Ratchasima province was recently designated by UNESCO as one of its official Global Geoparks.

This year, 18 geoparks were added to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. Aside from Thailand's Khorat, there are Brazil's Caçapava and Quarta Colônia, Greece's Lavreotiki, New Zealand's Waitaki Whitestone, Philippines' Bohol, Spain's Cabo Ortegal, and Malaysia's Kinabalu, among others.

Established as a provincial geopark in 2015, Khorat Geopark is considered a Paleontopolis (City of Ancient Life) due to its diversity of fossils from 16 million to 10,000 years ago.

In celebration of its UNESCO Global Geopark designation in May 2023, Khorat Geopark kicked off the Geopark and Fossil Festival yesterday, June 8, at the Central Korat shopping mall, teeming with fun and educational activities for the public.

The festival held its "Creative Fashion Contest: Geopark & Fossil Cosplay" yesterday, while festgoers today can look forward to the "Toy Story of Isan Fossil Competition" and the "Best Food from Geopark and Nature Conservation Area" contest.

On the last day of the fest tomorrow, three events will take centrestage, namely the Geo Product Go Green competition, as well as the "TOP FAN!!: Khorat Fossil" and "TOP FAN!!: Thailand Geopark" quiz competitions for the secondary school level.
