Setting a new standard for sustainable urban neighbourhoods is the core of the design for Cloud 11 – Bangkok’s largest elevated garden developed by Snøhetta and Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited. The design was developed in collaboration with A49 Architects.

Given Bangkok’s dearth of public green spaces, Cloud 11 will serve as a resilient community and an urban lung that offers a tranquil environment to everyone in the CyberTech district of South Sukhumvit.

In a press release by Snøhetta on Feb. 23, the architecture studio revealed that the 254,000 square-metre Cloud 11 is a mixed-use structure for commercial, hospitality, and cultural purposes.

The building was designed to be resistant to ecological threats such as air pollution and due to the scarcity of open green areas in the city. It also features huge open spaces to allow the natural flow of quality air ventilation. Pocket parts and a huge central lawn are incorporated into the design, the largest of its kind in Thailand.

There will be educational facilities, multiple workspaces, restaurants, retail shops, a gym, and hotels that are connected by "village-like" alleys, plazas, streets, and escalators.

"We have had the opportunity to not only create a building, but a new neighborhood in the center of Bangkok. An urban artifact providing a thriving place for culture and creation and green public spaces that will improve the quality of life for people living in the South Sukhumvit area,” Snøhetta Founding Partner Kjetil Trædal Thorsen was quoted as saying.

“With an increasing number of people moving into urban areas, it is crucial to develop communities fit to accommodate the needs of the future cities in a sustainable way, both socially and environmentally."

The construction of Cloud 11 has already begun and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024.
