‘Spruce’ Your Home Frequently With This Furniture Subscription Service

You’re probably familiar with music and video subscription services, such as Spotify and Netflix, but have you heard of furniture subscription? Yes, there’s such a thing, and it was launched recently by Thailand’s leading luxury furniture retailer Chanintr.

Spruce is the first-ever furniture subscription service of its kind. They help homeowners (and property tenants) create a space they’ll find comfortable to live in, minus the commitment. This means you don’t have to keep that sofa you bought forever. You also don’t have to think of how you’ll dispose of it (properly, of course!) once it has served its purpose.

Why Should You Subscribe?

A survey by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) revealed that in just seven months, the city generated more than 2,738 tonnes of bulky trash. Of those numbers, 42% were discarded furniture. This means our landfills are mostly filled with fixtures that could otherwise have been saved and given a new home!

Lifestyles change, and there are times when our furniture can no longer keep up with our current demands. The problem is, what if they’re still in good condition? Donation channels and circular shops are out there, but some people can’t be bothered with that kind of hassle and expense.

With Spruce, all you need is to subscribe, swap if you want a new look for your home, extend if you’re loving your furniture so far, and stop if you’re ready to move on. You don’t have to worry about the furniture you’ll let go, because they’ll surely find their next home.

What’s more, as part of their sustainability model, they’re working with non-profit organisation Plant for the Planet to plant one tree per one subscription.

How Much is the Subscription?

The subscription depends on the package or furniture you’ll get and for how long. Let’s take this Nordic Sideboard by Belgium furniture brand Ethnicraft as an example.

If your desired subscription length is three months, it will cost you THB2,850 per month (as of writing) or THB8,550 in total. But if you subscribe to it longer like 12 months, you’ll have a lower rate of THB1,500 per month or THB18,000 a year.

What’s more, if the total contract value of your furniture reaches THB5,000 or more, you can enjoy free delivery, assembly, and pickup.

What Pieces of Furniture Are Available?

There are over 200 pieces of furniture and fixtures in Spruce’s catalogue. You can shop by package, space (dining room, living room, outdoor, bedroom, or workspace), or function or type (beds, decoration, lighting, seating, storage and shelving, and more) to find what you’re looking for. You can also filter by price and choose from the 12 brands currently listed.

What Happens After You Return Your Furniture?

This is the part that matters. According to their website, every piece of furniture is refurbished until it’s no longer up to their (very high) standards. They sanitise everything and fix wear and tear like scratches, loose screws, and stains at the end of each subscription before handing them over to their next home. If you subscribe, you might not even notice that your piece had a previous owner!
