Google Upgrades AI Tool, Renaming It From ‘Bard’ to ‘Gemini’
Gemini in, Bard out! Since last year, Google has been developing its own artificial intelligence (AI) tools in response to the rise of similar bots on the internet. Recently, the company announced that "Bard” will now be called “Gemini.”
“Our mission with Bard has always been to give you direct access to our AI models, and Gemini represents our most capable family of models. To reflect this, Bard will now simply be known as Gemini,” Google said via a blog post on Feb. 8.
The tech giant’s former AI tool helped users to get ready for job interviews, troubleshoot, generate business concepts, or create visuals, while the upgraded AI tool has advanced features that are transforming how everyone uses their computers and smartphones.
Like other AI tools, Google’s Gemini offers a paid version and mobile app of the tool. The paid version is called Gemini Advanced, which can take on more complex tasks like coding and logical reasoning, and more exclusive features. It is now available in more than 150 countries and territories in English, with Google eyeing to expand to more languages soon.
In blind evaluations conducted with Google’s third-party raters, Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 emerged as the frontrunner or “the most preferred chatbot compared to leading alternatives.” With Gemini Pro 1.0 model, users can chat with it using over 40 different languages, and will be available in more than 230 countries and territories.
Interested users can be a premium subscriber of Gemini Advanced for US$19.99 per month, which is included in the new Google One AI Premium Plan that comes with 2TB of storage. What’s more, you can use Gemini soon in various Google products such as Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Sheets, to name a few.
You can download the app on Android or access it through the Google app on iOS.
