How to Help Victims of Typhoon Carina: Where to Donate and Volunteer

The devastation brought on by Typhoon Carina was both surprising and heartbreaking. Rains brought on by the calamity were exacerbated by the monsoon rains, creating a disaster that paralleled Ondoy in 2009. Lives were taken away, properties were damaged, and now, nearly a week later, volunteer efforts have become paramount in a bid to rebuild. If you’re among the many good Samaritans who are interested in helping those affected, here’s where you can direct your efforts or resources.
Angat Buhay
Former Vice President Leni Robredo and her team find themselves at the forefront of another community movement. Aside from offering free medical consultations for those who have had to wade in floodwaters, Angat Buhay is also helping to mobilize volunteer groups across Metro Manila, many of which are still donating both monetary and in-kind donations. See which groups are located closest to you on their Instagram page for easy access and convenience.
Philippine Red Cross
Monetary donations are still welcome at the Philippine Red Cross. Donors can choose to give through official bank accounts under the name of “Philippine Red Cross” at BDO, Metrobank, BPI, Security Bank, or AUB. All donations will go towards mobilizing emergency response vehicles and volunteers, and providing food, water, and sanitation items to the thousands of families staying at evacuation centers.
Gawad Kalinga
True to its tagline, Gawad Kalinga refuses to leave anyone behind. Those who wish to help out can visit the Fountain Breeze Clubhouse in Paranaque City to drop off rice, instant noodles, or canned goods. Volunteers may also look for their team leader, Nikko Navida, should they be able to spare their time for the cause as well.
PAWS Philippines
Humans weren’t the only ones affected by the heavy rains – animals were too! PAWS Philippines calls for monetary donations through BDO, BPI, PNB, or GCash. US Donors are also welcome to give through a link on their Instagram post. Those who have excess goods at home are also more than welcome to drop off old towels, collapsible crates and cages, and dog and cat food to their office at Aurora Boulevard corner Katipunan Avenue in Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Canned goods for human consumption as well as rice for pet owners are also accepted.
Piston Philippines
Jeepney drivers, especially those whose vehicles were damaged by the rains, are among the most vulnerable of those affected. Fortunately, with your help, Piston Philippines is more than willing to help those in their community through a donation page that can be accessed on their website. In-kind donations are also welcomed at 12-A Kasiyahan Street, Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City. To coordinate, please contact Nono at 09078399840.
Gabriela Partylist
The Gabriela Women’s Partylist is currently calling for donations through their Chinabank account and GCash account. Residents of Quezon City are also invited to drop vitamins, medicine, first aid equipment, rice, and canned goods at 35 Scout Delgado Street in Barangay Laging Handa. Gabriela’s efforts have already seen the distribution of hot meals and food packs to those affected in Marikina, Pasig, and Quezon City, though they continue to work towards reaching more.
Concerned Artists of the Philippines
This organization of writers, musicians, filmmakers, and cultural workers is reaching out to coastal communities and fisherfolk families whose equipment, livelihoods, and homes have been affected by the destruction of Typhoon Carina. Rice, canned goods, instant noodles, and most importantly, drinking water, are being accepted at the College of Social Work and Community Development in UP Diliman. Senders can coordinate with Edge Uyanguren at 09176180003. Donors may also consider sending monetary donations through the attached QR code.
