Michelle Yeoh, superstar of Hong Kong’s golden age of movies and daughter of the Malaysian city of Ipoh, is the first Asian actress ever to win the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) Award for Best Actress in recognition of her work in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

She faced stiff competition for SAG’s top actress nod, which included Ana de Armas for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde,” Viola Davis as African royalty in “The Woman King,” and Danielle Deadwyler as the Mother Till in “Till.”

Once on stage to make her acceptance speech, Michelle just couldn’t keep her winning emotions in check. With a few curse words here and there, she dedicated the award to Asian actors who have been shut out of Hollywood for a very long time. “This is for every little girl who looks like me,” she said with a little swaggering shrug.

Here is the list of noms (and dubs) that the film scored at the SAG Awards ceremony:

Motion Picture Cast – WINNER

Female Actor in a Leading Role (Michelle Yeoh) – WINNER

Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Ke Huy Quan) – WINNER

Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Jamie Lee Curtis) – WINNER

It’s full steam ahead for the A24 production, and its next stop is the big kahuna: the Oscars. The movie is nominated in 10 categories, and the haul they got from the SAG Awards has set them up nicely to take the crowning glory of the awards season.
