Cafe Trip Around the World: 7 International Coffee Shops in Manila

Indonesia: Kenangan Coffee
Kenangan Coffee is Metro Manila’s newest caffeine purveyor. They are an Indonesian brand brought to you by the same group handling Macao Imperial; needless to say, its nascent arrival at SM MOA will soon be followed by their expansion all across Metro Manila.
If you’re curious to try, you must get their signature Kenangan Latte, which can be iced or hot. Prices depend upon size, but range from P90 (8 oz, hot) to P165 (20 oz, iced).
The drink itself is made from coffee beans harvested in Java and Sumatra. It also features a generous amount of the brand’s signature milk, plus delicious gula aren, or Indonesian palm sugar. With over 900 branches across their home country and celebrity investors such as Serena Williams and Jay-Z, there’s a definite reason why Kenangan Coffee is now the fastest-growing coffee chain in Southeast Asia.
Location: Kenangan Coffee, Level 2, North Entertainment Mall, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City
Australia: ST. ALi Coffee Roasters
Another recent addition to Manila’s thriving coffee scene, ST. ALi Melbourne makes its way to Manila with a brunch café that offers everything from beans to cups of joe.
If you’re among those itching for a taste, we recommend the Coco Mingle (P420). It’s a unique and incredibly refreshing take on coffee, one that also plays with scientific principles such as density. Coconut water is poured into a glass and topped with a mixture of chocolate cream and espresso; take a sip as is then mix together to taste the full experience.
Location: ST. ALi Manila, 1F, Opus Mall, Bridgetowne Destination Estate, Quezon City
South Korea: Paik’s Coffee

Those who’ve binged Netflix's “Culinary Class Wars” may have only recently met Paik Jong-won, but local insiders are likely to have heard of him from his coffee franchises around Manila (and around the world). Paik’s Coffee, which reached Philippine shores in 2023, has since expanded with branches around your favorite malls (including Robinsons Magnolia, SM Manila, and BGC).
Paik’s is particularly great for those craving a sweet treat because aside from their recommended coffee menu (which includes classics such as espresso and café lattes made with premium Brazilian beans), they also have indulgent bestsellers.
Their renowned “Paiksccino” is a constant hit in South Korea. Local customers can get a taste of it for themselves, with flavors such as green tea, chocolate, strawberry banana, cookie crunch, and pongdang (which adds crunchy cereal to your drink!). Choose to have it as a smoothie for P190 or top it off with a signature in-house soft serve for P220.

Hong Kong: The Coffee Academics

Lauded as one of Hong Kong’s most popular cafes, the multi-awarded Coffee Academics introduces Filipinos to delicious bakery staples and drinks. They currently have four strategic branches around Metro Manila, including BGC, Robinsons Magnolia, SM Megamall, and Greenhills.
If you find yourself there, do try their delicious, flaky, buttery croissants. More adventurous eaters can try the Black Coconut Croissant, though purists may find themselves attracted to the café’s Classic Butter Croissant. Both will pair beautifully with signature drinks inspired from around the world. We recommend the New Zealand-inspired Manuka coffee (P310), made with its namesake honey, or the Indonesian Jawa coffee (P230), which hints at pandan and coconut taste profiles.

Vietnam: Highlands Coffee

Modestly priced yet delightfully delicious, Vietnam’s Highlands Coffee has been a reliable purveyor of its country’s famed beverage. With a menu that allows customers to avail of drinks for less than P100 pesos – not to mention the popular peach iced tea of Vietnam – Highlands Coffee has made high-quality sips accessible to many.
If it’s your first time here, you must try the café’s signature Phin Sua Da, also known as Vietnamese iced milk coffee. It boasts of authenticity and marries hand-roasted Robusta beans with Arabica. Baristas then slow-drip the brewed coffee through a traditional Vietnamese filter called a phin, completing the base of a bold, delicious drink.

Malaysia: ZUS Coffee

Malaysia’s ZUS Coffee has arrived – and they even have their own app! With a passion for making premium coffee accessible, ZUS began as a nascent brand in 2019. Since then, they’ve expanded outside of the country and into the Philippines, Singapore, and Brunei.
Of course, for a taste of authenticity, try ZUS’s Gula Melaka iced latte (P95). It is made with palm sugar syrup (gula melaka), coconut cream, and espresso. The brand proudly advocates that those who try it are tasting the “Malaysian essence.” Their new Hiraya Latte is also worth a try and promises a buttery, caramel flavor, that’s sure to be a hit with Filipinos.

Singapore: Common Man Coffee Roasters

Originating from Singapore but now available here in the Philippines, Common Man Coffee Roasters sits in the tranquil gardens of Ayala Triangle. Beloved for both food and drink, it’s become a trendy hotspot for young professionals and friends looking for a boost of energy. Those who visit can choose from an extensive menu of brunch favorites such as acai bowls and avocado toast; of course, they can further complete their mornings by ordering coffee.
Common Man Coffee Roasters offers filter coffee that can suit anyone’s taste. Their Uncommon Slow Brew (P240) consists of seasonal single-origin beans, manually brewed and prepared to order. Loyal customers can return for their original Slow Brew (P220), which uses readily available single-origin beans that are served year-round. This is also manually brewed and prepared to order. But fear not if you’re on-the-go because you can always choose the Fast Brew (P190), which consists of the barista’s favorite single origin, brewed as a batch, and ready to go for takeout or dine-in at any time.
