Patrón El Cielo is Finally Here in the Philippines

Patrón. Even for non-drinkers, this tequila brand has earned quite a reputation – who’s getting flashbacks of 2000s and 2010s party songs? That iconic Lil’ Jon song, anyone? While we (and by we, I mean us millennials) no longer hear our favorite jams in the clubs, we’re still very much familiar – even close, to be painfully honest – with Patrón. Good news is, their newest addition might just strengthen this relationship further. Oh, and did we mention that it tastes like heaven?
Patrón El Cielo is the world’s first four-times distilled premium tequila. The result? A bright and fresh taste with a smooth finish that’s rich with citrus notes. For those used to mixto tequila, this is unfamiliar territory but oh so welcome. Mixto is when the tequila is made from at least 51% agave, with the rest of the blend coming from sugars, thus leading to a taste profile that is less smooth or complex. In other words, that’s the familiar kick typically – and quite wrongfully – attributed to tequila.

Fret not, however, because Patrón El Cielo is made of 100% Weber Blue agave. Crafted in small batches, this drink is sure to elevate your drinking experience. Put down the shot glasses, as this drink was made to be enjoyed on the rocks (preferably with a large square or spherical ice) plus an orange peel. With this, you’ll further accentuate its citrus notes. Plus, with such an elegant glass bottle fitted with gold accents, it would be a shame to down it like frat party-liquor.

During its launch at Xylo in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), the Patrón El Cielo was presented to the white and gold-clad guests with a selection of fruits. Still, we highly recommend using oranges. When the radiant tequila blends with the sweet and tangy orange, it’s chef’s kiss.
Another pleasant surprise during the event was the electrifying performance delivered by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra led by Maestro Rodel Colmenar. The 26-member ensemble stunned the crowd with their classical rendition of iconic Electronic Dance Music (EDM) songs like “Levels” by Avicii, “Stay the Night” by Zedd feat. Hayley Williams, and more.

With the crowd up and hyped, the party continued as Elmer Dado and the Gruppo Tribale served more music highlighted by the drums and bongos. And the night didn’t end there. Powered by the tequila, the party continued well into the wee hours as DJs Martin Pulgar and Kat DJ kept the speakers pumping.
Its launch in the Philippines is the first in Southeast Asia, and according to the representatives of Patrón, Filipinos love their tequila. It comes as no surprise, of course, given our culture of doing “shots” and downing hard liquor (such as lambanog) without breaking a sweat. Plus, they stressed, we tend to order by the bottle, not just glasses of cocktails. Here in the Philippines, it seems, launching a new flavor that would be best appreciated in its purest form makes perfect sense. And since it’s pure agave and no sugar, you can expect to wake up tomorrow without a dreadful hangover. What’s not to love?
