Dove Girls Rejoice! Dove Is Releasing a New Haircare Line With Bio-Protein
If you’ve watched Fleabag, you’ll know what we mean when we say: “Hair is everything.”
As the salon goes silent in the scene, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character continues her impassioned speech, “We wish it wasn’t so we could actually think about something else occasionally. But it is. It’s the difference between a good day and a bad day.”
And not a single lie was detected in that speech. Hair, in fact, is everything — not only for women, but also for men. Women avail treatments costing thousands of pesos (dedicating a good portion of their 13th-month pay, if not all, to a salon trip) for them to feel good about their tresses, while men undergo hair transplants or put on semi-permanent toupees to hide hair loss. According to research, 75% of Filipinas are dissatisfied with their hair condition and 81% have not found a solution to their hair damage.
For everyone, hair is their crowning glory. Fortunately, better haircare technologies are being developed every year to help people attain healthier, shinier hair. Dove, for example, is one of the world’s biggest personal care brands that has been in existence for over six decades, but they have never stopped reinventing their haircare line.
During their Dove Care Labs event at Whitespace Manila, Dove revealed their latest haircare line that features Bio-Protein technology. The line showcases four products:
- Ceramide Intense Repair to reserve signs of damage and seal in nutrients by protecting the hair’s outer layer
- Bio-Keratin Straight & Silky protects against humidity for frizzy, unmanageable hair
- Biotin Hairfall Rescue to strengthen hair against breakage and hairfall
- Restorative Oil Nourishing Care to lock in moisture for dry, dull hair using Argan Oil, Marula, and Sunflower Seed Oil
But we know what you’re thinking, what’s the difference between the new line and the old Dove haircare line? The answer is Bio-Protein Care, which Unilever Product Development Team Lead Anna Tongco explained is their latest formulation inspired by the hair’s natural biology and skincare ingredients.
“If you were familiar with Dove [products] before then you know that we have all sorts of fiber-carrying ingredients, but [Bio-Protein] is able to penetrate deeper to where hair damage may be harder to reach because they’re in the inner-most layers of the hair. We tested this technology against our previous technology and we were able to improve [the formula] by giving it around 50% more resistance to damage,” Anna said.
We all know what damage we’re talking about here in the Philippines. The number one enemy that we’re all up against with our portable fans, air-conditioners, ice-cold drinks, sunscreen, and now, brand-new haircare technology – the heat.
Fortunately, Anna revealed that they took that, and more, into consideration when they were developing this new formula. As a tropical country, she stressed that our hair is exposed to a different kind of heat. It’s a must, then, that their latest technology can stand up against rising temperatures and humidity.
“One of the most common hair concerns that Filipinos mention is fairly simple: dry hair. Hair that feels like it’s lost its moisture because in this environment, how can it not? Also, Filipinas want their hair to have natural movement. So we also make sure that our shampoos and conditioners can still maintain that body, not weigh their hair down, make it stick straight or be stiff and flat,” Anna added.
