PSA: A Ride-Hailing App for Electric Boat Taxis Will Be Available in July!
Getting around Bangkok is now easier with the latest technology. With just one tap, you can book a car to go wherever you want – except in Khlongs. If you want to explore the beauty of the city, traveling by land is not enough to make the most out of your experience. Luckily, there’s a new app coming out in July that will let you hail electric boat taxis soon!
Developed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the taxi service is designed to connect with Bangkok’s electric rail systems, public bus services, and motorcycle taxi services as reported by the Bangkok Post.
The pilot phase will launch in Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem and service some of its branching canals using two prototype boats. Soon after, they will be expanding to many other khlongs in the city.
The app is made primarily to promote tourism in the city. Passengers will then be able to hail an on-demand boat taxi using an application. Like most ride-hailing apps, the fare will be calculated based on distance.
