‘Gucci Visions’ Arrives in Bangkok, Chronicles the Brand’s Iconic Legacy
Fashions fans will be excited to know that Italian luxury marque, Gucci, has made its way to Bangkok with a retrospective exhibition highlighting key moments in its 103-year history.
“Gucci Visions” pays tribute to the brand’s illustrious run through fashion history, with displays hand-picked from the Gucci archives in Florence, Italy. Located at Emsphere, Bangkok’s newest shopping jewel, the fashion pop-up celebrates the brand’s signature designs and emblems across six themed rooms and pays homage to founder Guccio Gucci and past creative directors such as Tom Ford, Frida Giannini, and Alessandro Michele.
The exhibition is mapped out to explore the brand’s progressive spirit and creativity through the years, featuring familiar Gucci icons such as the GG monogram, Bamboo bag, and Flora pattern. Each themed space represents a different facet of the brand’s history and will showcase rare creations for visitors to see up close: from iconic handbags to custom gowns worn by celebrities on the red carpet. Although the exhibit artfully chronicles significant milestones in the fashion house’s history, it can be explored freely in any order.
Flora features the Flora print designed by artist Vittorio Accornero de Testa for Gucci in 1966 and was first introduced on a silk scarf. Today, it has been interpreted across the brand’s collection of handbags, accessories, and even fragrances.
Within the Bamboo room, visitors will be able to see archival and contemporary models of the popular bamboo bag, which was inspired by the founder’s fifth son, Vasco Gucci, and his love for walking sticks. Meanwhile, Travel displays the 2022 “Gucci Savoy” collection of travel bags, a nod to the founding year of Gucci in 1921 when it focused on creating the “English Luggage,” which was a result of Guccio’s travels to London.
The Icons room highlights the most memorable bags the brand has designed, such as the Bamboo 1947 and the crescent-shaped Jackie 1961 bag. It also displays over 200 versions of the handbags interpreted by various creative directors, lined up against stunning mirror shelves.
The Stars room offers yet another immersive experience, allowing viewers to feast their eyes on a collection of gorgeous gowns tailored for famous figures in various industries, including the dress designed for Thailand’s first Gucci ambassador, Davika Hoorne.
Chic and stylish for more than a century, Gucci has curated some of its best looks in The Fashion room, highlighting signature motifs and silhouettes that have defined and set trends for years, inspiring designers, artists, and avid fashion fans.
