Thailand Government to Offer Medical Insurance to Foreign Tourists

Thailand to Offer Medical Insurance to Foreign Tourists

Attention, travel junkies! You can now visit the Land of Smiles worry-free, as Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport (MOTS) announced the launch of its new campaign to offer foreign tourists medical insurance.

Done in cooperation with the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (NIEM), the “Assistance Scheme for Foreign Tourist Injury and Casualty” program aims to provide relief to foreign tourists in case of accidents and unfortunate disasters while on a trip to Thailand.

However, like many insurance programs, covered cases do not include incidents caused by the tourist’s fault or their own illegal acts.

For the project, MOTS is allotting a THB50 million budget. In the case of death, coverage can reach up to THB1 million, while coverage for permanent loss of sight or permanent disability can reach a maximum payment of THB300,000.

Moreover, accident injuries will be covered with a maximum amount of THB500,000.

To complement the project, NIEM is also proposing the launch of a Tourist Emergency Medical Assistance Centre, targeted to assist in verifying such cases. A “Thailand Traveller Safety” system is also in place to help foreigners apply for the program.

To apply, tourists can head over to MOTS’ office, Provincial Tourism and Sports offices nationwide, the Tourist Assistance Centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and the Don Mueang International Airport, or send MOTS an email at [email protected].
