Indulgent Eats to Open New Modern Filipino Restaurant Bakarda in Feb 2023

Hong Kong’s top foodie influencer Indulgent Eats, moniker of New Yorker Jen Balisi, will open her first permanent culinary outpost in the city. Scheduled to open in February 2023, the restaurant is a modern Filipino eatery called Barkada.

Balisi announced the opening of Barkada on her Instagram account yesterday (Jan. 2) on the ground floor of newly launched lifestyle destination FOCO in SoHo.

In partnership with restaurant and bar group Singular Concepts, led by restaurateurs David Sit, Arnaud Pothier and Tiana Ludhani, who have worked together with local names Christopher Chan and Gagan Gurung to bring us The Daily Tot, Tell Camellia, Barcode, Entourage, and Bianco & Rosso; the crew have teamed up with Jen to unveil Barkada next month, a project she calls a “tropical urban retro paradise that’s loud and proud to be Filipino”.

Set to announce more details to her restaurant, having teased the creation of Barkada on her Instagram page, Balisi says that the menu will incorporate traditional Filipino and fusion dishes based on crowd favourites, items from her cookbook “Indulgent Eats at Home,” and from her pop ups, family recipes, as well as healthy and vegan-friendly dishes.

Foodies eager to get a taste for what’s in store should head to her pop-up at The Shady Acres from Jan. 12 to 14 in partnership with Barkada to preview Filipino-inspired cocktails and signatures Sizzling Sisig, lumpia, and a vegan version of her Spicy Funky Coconut Noodles.
