What Is ‘Metro Art,’ the New Underground Exhibit on Bangkok’s MRT Subway

Bangkok’s newest hub for arts and culture enthusiasts, the “Metro Art” project, is taking the city’s art scene to new heights this 2023. A collaboration between Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) and Bangkok Metro Networks Limited (BMN), the creative landmark is situated over a 1,000- square-metre area of MRT Phahon Yothin subway station.

Constructed with a THB30 million budget, “Metro Art” visitors will be treated to a myriad of stunning contemporary and classic art installations every month under the helm of talented visionaries such as PRJ and The Jump, among other notable artists. Music fans who intend to visit can look forward to a series of infectious performances by homegrown singers and bands.

Supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the newly minted underground exhibit aims to attract art-loving locals and tourists to immerse in the rich heritage of the Land of Smiles through paintings, sculptures, and multimedia displays. But that’s not all, the creative landmark’s offerings extend beyond exhibitions as it features an Art Learning Centre that serves as a hub for guests to gain new insights about various art fields.

Bangkok Metro Networks managing director Witsuwat Amkaphet hopes the “Metro Art” project will become a famous and significant art park in Thailand. “This project is phenomenal because it merges art with the MRT system to become the new Art Space and Art Destination in the city’s heart, as the MRT Phahon Yothin station connects to all areas of Bangkok. We are confident the opening of Metro Art, together with Thailand’s full reopening to tourists, will make the space a new must-see attraction in Bangkok,” he said.

Visitors can access the “Metro Art” project for free every day from 7 AM-9 PM. For more information, visit TAT’s official website or MRT Bangkok Expressway and Metro’s Facebook page.
