Govt. Launches Post-50 Internship Programme For Seniors
The Employees Retraining Board has taken a significant step towards addressing the employment challenges faced by individuals aged 50 and above with the launch of its Post-50 Internship Programme. This innovative initiative aims to assist mature workers in re-entering the workforce or making a career transition.
For the 2023-24 term, the programme has attracted over 800 individuals aged 50 and above who are eager to participate. Out of this pool, approximately 150 participants have been offered internships, highlighting the strong interest and demand for such opportunities.
The programme encompasses a wide range of industries, with about 50 participating organizations spanning sectors such as public utilities, social services, information and communication technology, business, and property management. This diverse array of industries ensures that participants have a wide selection of internship positions to choose from, allowing them to explore various career paths and gain valuable experience.
The participating organizations have committed to offering over 100 internship positions, providing seniors with meaningful opportunities to engage in the workforce and contribute their skills and expertise. Additionally, upon successful completion of their internships, participants will receive an allowance from the Labour Department, further supporting their career transitions.
A noteworthy aspect of the programme is the bonus offered to participants who achieve an attendance rate of 80% or above. This incentive not only motivates interns to fully commit to their roles but also demonstrates the commitment of participating organizations to recognize and reward the dedication and effort of mature workers.
The Post-50 Internship Programme is a commendable initiative that not only addresses the employment needs of seniors but also promotes inclusive employment practices. By offering internships across multiple industries and providing financial support, the government aims to empower individuals aged 50 and above to re-enter the workforce with confidence and explore new career opportunities.
