Girlies, Here’s the 411 on Sensitive Skin that You Haven’t Realized Yet
Cetaphil 1 Photo by Cetaphil Philippines

So, here’s the thing about sensitive skin: it’s not a skin type it’s a skin condition. It could manifest in redness, breakouts, or some kind of irritation and discomfort, but it’s not entirely that

Think about it: were there any times when your face felt a little tight after cleansing? Stung when you tried a new product? Flushed out of nowhere and mistaken for “Asian flush”? Yeah, those are all subtle signs that your skin might be a tiny bit more sensitive than you thought.

Sensitive skin isn’t a disease — it simply means that your skin is a little more selective. And here’s a plot twist: Galderma says that Filipinos top the list in Southeast Asia for the highest number of sensitive skin cases.

If you’re still wondering whether you have sensitive skin or not — we've got you. By the end of this read, you’ll get the 411 on the signs, the everyday habits and triggers you might not realize, and what you can do to help your sensitive skin out.

A Sensitive Skin Checklist

To kickstart your sensitive skin care journey, here are a few common signs to watch for:

Dryness

When your skin feels rough, tight, or itchy, it’s a sign it’s losing moisture and hydration — leaving it more vulnerable to some kind of irritation.

Irritation

A tell-tale sign of sensitive skin: think redness, rashes, or inflammation. These flare-ups are your skin’s way of saying, “Hey, uh, this isn’t great for me.”

Roughness

We all naturally shed skin, but with sensitive skin, that could leave the skin with flaky, dull, and patchy textures instead of a smoother surface.

Tightness

Like dryness, tight skin can feel quite stretched or stiff — a sign that it needs moisture and relief.

Weakened Skin Barrier

Sensitive skin often comes with a more delicate moisture barrier — your skin’s natural shield. When it’s damaged, new products may cause some stinging or a burning sensation. It’s also your skin’s way of asking for help and some protection.

If you’ve checked out some or all of these signs, then you do have sensitive skin!

Triggers to Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can be triggered by more than just the occasional redness or dryness. From environmental stressors to everyday habits, there are a bunch of sneaky triggers just hiding in plain sight. Here are some of them:

Stress

Whether it’s work deadlines or personal pressures, stress can take quite a toll on your skin. It can make it look dull and tired, with flare-ups happening often.

Pollution

Smoke, exhaust fumes, and dust can cling to your skin, clog pores, and heighten irritations — especially if you’re living in cities and you regularly commute.

Lifestyle

Lack of sleep, poor diet, and erratic routines can throw your skin off balance, leading to a more sensitive skin barrier.

Climate Change

Humid heat, air-conditioned cold, and other sudden shifts in the weather can irritate the skin barrier, leaving it more fragile and susceptible to damage.

So, What Can You Do About Your Sensitive Skin?

People can now discover more about their sensitive skin through free skin tests at the National Healthy Skin Mission booth at SM Makati

The good news: sensitive skin isn’t for life! There are a multitude of skincare brands out there designed to keep our skin calm, balanced, and healthy. But when it comes to dermatologist-approved favorites, there’s one name that they’ll consistently place at the top of their lists — and for good reason.

This year, Cetaphil’s National Healthy Skin Mission (NHSM) makes its return with sensitive skin as its focus. The theme? “There's More to Your Sensitive Skin.” And there really is so much for us to unpack — from redness and irritation to rough texture and post-inflammatory pigmentation — all the sneaky ways sensitivity can show up unannounced, and how to care for it better.

At the heart of this launch is Cetaphil’s newest innovation: the Soothing & Comforting CICA Range, designed to instantly reduce redness and provide up to 24 hours of skin barrier protection

The secret lies in Cetaphil’s Power Trio Blend, with three ingredients working together to address sensitivity at its core:

  • Centella Asiatica: a calming anti-inflammatory that supports skin healing
  • Allantoin: a gentle soothing agent that helps ease discomfort
  • Pentavitin: a deep hydrator that locks in moisture for long-term barrier support
Cetaphil also launched their newest innovation - the Soothing and Comforting line which helps instantly reduce redness and provide up to 24-hour skin barrier protection

Cetaphil_s newest Gentle Exfoliating Salicylic Acid Cleanser and Lotion provides gentle exfoliation safe for everyday use even for those with sensitive skin

Cetaphil’s newest range is definitely a game-changer for sensitive skin, soothing visible redness on the spot while strengthening your skin barrier to keep future flare-ups at bay.

Earlier last month, Cetaphil had also launched their Gentle Exfoliating Salicylic Acid line — a range that delivers effective exfoliation without compromise, gentle enough for daily use, even on the most sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin could be a bit daunting to care for at first, but there’s real power in learning and understanding everything — from how it works to what it needs. Whether you’re dealing with unwanted flare-ups, flakiness, or unexplainable redness, Cetaphil’s message is clear: it’s time to look beyond the surface

The Cetaphil National Healthy Skin Mission is happening at the SM Makati Main Atrium until Aug. 31, 2025. Drop by the pop-up for an exclusive look into all of Cetaphil’s skincare ranges!

For more information, follow Cetaphil Philippines on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Cetaphil products are available at Watsons, SM Beauty, and Watsons online

DR. CRB Spotlights Youthful Glow with Zero Downtime with New Treatments

Beauty and pampering nowadays don’t always have to come with compromise.

DR. CRB Aesthetic & Laser Clinic, known for their natural and chic approach to beauty, is highlighting two standout treatments at their Bonifacio Global City spot: the Red Touch and Hycoox — two non-invasive innovations designed to rejuvenate the skin and address skin problems with minimal to no downtime

Set in a spacious, Filipino-inspired modern interior accented with natural earth tones and solihiya weaves, the clinic offers a calm retreat for those looking for expert care and a relaxing spot for a much-needed glow-up session within the hustle and bustle of the metro.

Red Touch

Answering the demand for non-invasive anti-aging treatments in the country, this treatment is a game-changer, with DR. CRB being the first clinic in the Philippines to offer it. This collagen-targeting laser, made by Italian aesthetic tech company DEKA, uses a unique 675nm wavelength that stimulates collagen production for skin rejuvenation.

The effects? It restores both skin tone and firmness,  as well as answers some of the skin’s most pressing problems: wrinkles, skin laxity, and scars.

The whole treatment lasts for about 15 minutes and is relatively pain-free, with zero downtime. Meaning, you can go about your day normally without any side effects. However, those with sensitive skin may experience some redness right after.

Clients can expect immediate skin tightening and long-term improvement in skin tone and texture, with a treatment once a month for at least three consecutive monthly sessions.

Hycoox

Meanwhile, Hycoox is a treatment that offers a “skin reset” from within. Another option for face rejuvenation and anti-aging, this treatment uses a multi-suction injector to infuse the skin with a cocktail of skin-loving ingredients botulinum toxin for fine lines, hyaluronic acid for hydration and bounce, and exosomes for brightening and repair.

Designed for minimal swelling and increased comfort, the injection procedure is directed at the treatment spots to improve delivery of the injectables.

There may be a bit of downtime for this treatment, taking about a day to a week for recovery, but peak results can be visibly seen within two weeks. The treatment can be done after a month, with a maximum of three sessions a year.

Through their subtle and effective treatments, DR. CRB stays true to their mission of making clients feel “Naturally More Beautiful,” with services and offers grounded in science and refined aesthetics.

For inquiries and bookings, you may contact 0916 768 2750 and follow DR. CRB on Facebook and Instagram

If maximalism had a fairy godmother, she’d probably be Stacey Bendet — and she’d definitely be wearing alice + olivia.

Now, Manila fashion lovers can get a taste of the brand’s signature blend of playful sophistication, as alice + olivia opens its very first boutique in the Philippines at Greenbelt 5, Makati.

The New York-based label, founded in 2002 by Bendet, has long been a go-to for celebrities like Paris and Nicky Hilton, Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Known for its unapologetically feminine silhouettes and standout prints, the brand makes clothing that’s equal parts whimsical and polished.

Picture vintage-inspired shift dresses, bold tunics, suits, and long intricate dresses that feel ready for a red carpet, or at least a rooftop cocktail party. Apart from statement pieces, the boutique also has ready-to-wear collections for casual fashionistas.

The Manila launch on July 24, 2025 gathered the city’s fashion tastemakers, with the likes of Nikki Huang, Kylie Verzosa, Kyline Alcantara, and Ella Pangilinan turning out to celebrate.

Guests got a first look at the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, a dreamy parade of breezy florals, Toile de Jouy, and timeless pieces adorned with sequins, pearls and flowers.

Adding an interactive touch, attendees at the launch event also got to create their own take-home bouquets at a floral station in the boutique — on-theme with the collection and very alice + olivia.

Pricewise, expect pieces ranging from under PH10,000 to just over P70,000, with most sitting around P27,000.

ABC MART Photo by ABC-MART Philippines

Heads up, Sneakerheads! Another fan-favorite multi-brand shoe store is coming to Manila!

Japanese footwear retail giant ABC-MART is officially making its way to Philippine shores with the opening of ABC-MART Grand Stage and ABC-MART Standard in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) this September 2025.

The Beat Asia got to witness the exciting moment as the partnership was forged between SONAK Retail Group and ABC-MART at Uma Nota in BGC last July 28. Together, we officially welcomed the iconic footwear retail store into the Philippine market!

Signing
From Left to Right: Koji Higashimae, Chief Executive Officer of ABC-MART SONAK Philippines, Kiichiro Hattori, Senior Vice President of ABC-MART Japan, Anil Buxani, Chief Executive Officer of SONAK Retail Group, Kabir Buxani, Incoming Chief Executive Officer and Director of SONAK Retail Group | Photo by The Beat Asia

“Filipinos’ affinity for streetwear fashion makes this the perfect time for the much-loved ABC-MART to usher in a new era of retail excitement here in the country. We're particularly thrilled about this partnership, building on the recent success of ABC-MART in Vietnam," stated Anil Buxani, Chief Executive Officer of SONAK Retail Group. “This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in SONAK Retail Group's mission to deliver unparalleled shopping experiences in the country.”

Press conference

“Our entry into the Philippines is part of our strategic expansion plan in Southeast Asia. It’s a large and dynamic market for ABC-MART, and we believe that our collaboration with SONAK Retail Group will deliver outstanding outcomes. We’re eager to bring the distinct retail experience and curated brand assortment to the style-conscious Filipino shopper,” added Kiichiro Hattori, Vice President of ABC-MART.

Into the Sneakerverse

Get ready, sneaker fans, because ABC-MART is about to change the local retail landscape with its Grand Stage store, ABC-MART's premium concept designed to deliver a specialized, upscale, and elevated retail experience.

ABC-MART Grand Stage BGC will span over 750 square meters across two floors, packed with a wide array of shoe collections, including limited-edition and exclusive releases from leading brands such as Nike, Adidas, ASICS, Puma, New Balance, Skechers, Timberland, Vans, Crocs, Salomon, and more!

The Grand Stage store also proves to be a unique branch as it’s the first store globally to have a Wellness Corner, which is sure to elevate Filipinos’ shopping experience.

In contrast, the Standard Concept Store will cater to a broader audience, providing a wide variety of collections for everyday footwear and casual wear. And we got an exclusive tidbit that the second ABC-MART location will be in Mitsukoshi BGC, which is the perfect spot for the brand to not only further deepen its relationship with the local market but also connect with its Japanese roots.

On talks of entering the local market, we asked Kabir Buxani, Incoming Chief Executive Officer and Director of SONAK Retail Group, about the gaps in the Philippine footwear market they hope to address with ABC-MART, to which he replied that they’re leaning towards the technology they built that ultimately improves the entire shopping experience.

“I believe we have built together an incredible base of technology and customer service that promotes efficiency, and a lot of features that you can take advantage of, whether it's buying online or in-store. We believe we have built a world-class system that will not only provide our customers with ease of shopping — any kind of inconvenience can be handled in a way that is very convenient — but also provide everything that comes with a world-class brand, like customer loyaltyautomated digital marketing, and AI recommendations. These are all things that we’ve built that set us apart from our competitors.”

Kiichiro Hattori also emphasized that it’s important for them to be localized and is looking into collaborating with local designers on some of their products soon.

Are you excited to shoe shop till you drop? Stay tuned on their official social media pages for updates on store openings and special sneak peeks at upcoming collections, collaborations, and more!

The Beat Asia Tries: Deoproce’s Newest Acne Care Line for 1 Month
Deoproce tba

Admit it: your current skincare lineup has gone through a rotation of products, trial-and-error, and a whole lot of switching. It’s practically a universal experience at this point, because when it comes to acne-prone skin, we’ve already accepted the fact that there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution

Most of us build our routines around one goal: clear skin, free from visible imperfections. But what if clear skin isn’t the end goal, and just the starting point?

Skincare for acne-prone skin has always come with a trade-off: clarity at the cost of comfort. But it doesn’t always have to be that way.

Deoproce recently launched their Acne Care Line, allowing us to rethink how we care for acne-prone and sensitive skin. Designed as a softer and gentler solution for acne-prone and sensitive skin, this line promises more than just clear skin: it aims to fight breakouts, soothe irritations, clear pores, and restore balance to give you your best skin yet.

After a full month of testing, The Beat Asia saw firsthand how Deoproce’s Acne Clear Line performs on oily, acne-prone skin. Here’s a closer look at the results.

Deoproce’s Acne Clear Line: 6 Products for a Full Routine

Deoproce's Acne Care Line features six products, formulated to give you your best skin yet.
Deoproce's Acne Care Line | Photo from Instagram/Deoproce Philippines

Deoproce’s Acne Clear Line is carefully formulated with six essential products—each one made to support acne-prone and sensitive skin with a gentle and effective cleanse.

This lineup creates a full skincare regimen that cleanses, treats, and restores balance without the risk of compromising your skin’s comfort.

The Skin Prep

The first step to any effective acne routine is a gentle cleanse and tone. Deoproce offers three products that clear the skin without any harsh products on the skin.

  • The Acne Clear Gel Cleanser: A lightweight gel cleanser that lathers gently on the skin, unclogs pores, and lifts impurities, targeting acne, blackheads, whiteheads, and buildup, while leaving the skin moisturized.
  • The Acne Clear Solid Bar: A cleanser in bar soap format—it cleanses excess sebum to reduce any chances of body acne and sweat-induced breakouts. You can also use it as a second cleanser to ensure your face is totally clean!
  • The Acne Clear Toner: A lightweight toner that restores moisture balance and preps the skin for the next products. It’s non-greasy, fast absorbing, and perfect for daily use!

The Treatment

Once the skin is clean and prepped, the next step is to deliver the utmost care that your skin needs.

  • The Acne Clear Serum: A lightweight, fast-absorbing serum that soothes acne-prone skin and inflammation.
  • The Acne Clear Moisturizer: A non-oily moisturizer that locks in hydration, rebalances the skin, and controls sebum.
  • The Acne Clear Spot Treatment: The emergency acne fix! This targets your acne head on and restores comfort to target areas with its calming, swab-on formula.

The Ingredients That Make It All Up

What sets this line apart from the others is its thoughtful formulation, powered by Deoproce’s Korean innovation. Deoproce’s Acne Clear Line has three stellar ingredients that ensure results without any compromise:

  • Anti-sebum P: A patented complex formulated by Deoproce, this ingredient helps control oil and sebum, moisturizes skin, lifts skin impurities, and smooths and refines the skin’s texture.
  • 5-Root Care: A natural blend of five botanical extracts inspired by traditional Korean herbal medicine. It deeply nourishes the skin, reduces inflammation and soothes irritated skin, while protecting the skin barrier over time.
  • Salicylic Acid: This line features a low, skin-friendly concentration of salicylic acid that gently exfoliates and clears pores. This penetrates deeply into the skin and targets the three main causes of acne without irritating or compromising the skin barrier.

The Test: One Whole Month to Guarantee Real Results

Over the course of one month, we put Deoproce’s Acne Clear Line to the test—with no skipped steps, no product swaps, just the complete routine on display.

We were absolutely delighted with how this routine was so easy to stick to, and how it fit in seamlessly in our skincare habits. Admittedly, we didn’t reach out for the Acne Clear Spot Treatment as often—because breakouts barely showed up before and during the trial.

With our oily skin type at play, we were especially eager to observe how well the Acne Care Line could manage all the excess shine, congestion, and texture over time.

Before we began, we had already been dealing with excess oil on the face and redness. Some of our pores were also quite prominent, especially across the T-zone.

By Day 7, subtle but promising changes had already appeared: the redness around the cheeks was visibly calmer, pores looked a little clearer, and our skin’s texture felt smoother. There was also a luminosity to the skin that we noticed—it wasn’t overly dewy, but it made the skin look fresh. The oiliness of the skin was still there (as expected), but it was noticeably more manageable than before.

Come Day 14, the transformation was even clearer. The skin appeared brighter, healthier, and even-toned. The redness significantly faded, and our complexion looked more refined than it originally was. This change made us feel quite confident of showing off our skin as it is—without any makeup.

By Day 21, the biggest change was how much of the redness had visibly faded. Not entirely, but had softened to the point that it looked more like a natural flush than inflammation. Our skin tone appeared more even, and the overall complexion had a healthy, luminous glow that we were so happy about.

By the end of the month, the results were undeniable. Our skin’s texture had improved, the oiliness remained at bay, and our skin was noticeably calmer, brighter, and balanced. Every day felt like a small win because of all these visible results, and we could never have been happier!

Final Thoughts and Verdict

Using the full Acne Clear Line was just as Deoproce promised: gentle, lightweight, and kind to acne-prone, sensitive skin. Throughout the month, there were no instances of irritation—no stinging, no breakouts, and no uncomfortable reactions.

Every product layered well with each other and sat well on the skin—even under makeup! The routine was also quite easy to follow and seamlessly fit into our usual rotation.

Would we keep using it? Absolutely! All the products felt nice on the skin, and with continuous use, we’re confident to say that our skin will surely look the best it’s ever been. It already looks and feels better than it ever has!

Life’s too short to have boring hair, so flip it and flaunt it!

Watsons Philippines just wrapped up a vibrant hair affair with its “Flip It! Flaunt It!” campaign at the SM Mall of Asia Main Atrium, running from July 14 to 20, 2025. The activation turned the space into a hair haven, complete with complimentary makeovers, styling, and real-time expert advice that made hair care more empowering.

Last July 16, beauty insiders, local content creators, and everyday shoppers came together with hair experts to celebrate hair as both a statement and a form of self-expression.

Hair industry icons were present, including MARK’ed Salon Founder Mark Rosales, THE BLOC’s Junie Sierra, modern hair technique expert Mike Feliciano, and celebrity hairstylist Matt Ledesma

“The first step for great hair is knowing your hair and scalp status,” said MARK’ed Salon founder and hair expert Mark Rosales, who answered some of the audience’s burning questions about hair. “My tip for you is simple but powerful: stop guessing, know your hair status, know your hair and scalp, create your own mark, and make your own mark.”

Fact: Some of the most common hair care mistakes start with our everyday routines

Junie Sierra from THE BLOC mentioned that habits like the non-usage of conditioner and using hot tools like irons are the two most common hair care mistakes we make.

When it comes to coloring for the first time, Mike Feliciano listed down five tips: “Don’t DIY at home, Know your Why?’, Get your pegs ready. Go easy at first, and get ready for the maintenance.” He also said, “Consistency is key!”

As for the latest hair trends, Matt Ledesma said, “A lot of people are leaning towards a dimensional balayage, which is easy to incorporate with your natural hair color, and it also grows out a lot softer.” To style this hair color, Matt said that beach waves and curls are the best choice. “Not that it’s trending, but at the same time it’s very timeless.”

Made in partnership with beauty service app Parlon, the “Flip It! Flaunt It!” event gave guests access to free hair color applications, professional styling, and personalized scalp and hair analysis. More than just a moment to get glammed up, it was a chance to get down and know what’s up with our hair.

The week-long event showcased a curated hair care line-up, including trusted names like Urban Care, Mise en Scene, L’Oréal, Naturals by Watsons, Dove, Tsubaki, Fino, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, and more, with guests getting exclusive access to some exciting new product drops — available exclusively at Watsons.

To continue this conversation, Watsons also launched “Hair Chair Stories,” a content series that tackles everyday hair problems like dandruff, coloring upkeep, curly hair care, and more. Hosted by dermatologist Jarische Lao-Ang, celebrity hairstylist Dominic Mangat, and Watsons Beauty Advisor Rachel Samon, the series is now live on Watsons’ Instagram and TikTok pages, creating a platform where beauty meets guidance.

The “Flip It! Flaunt It!” hair celebration continues in Watsons stores nationwide and on the Watsons app. Watsons Club members can still score exclusive promos up to 50% off, Buy 1 Take 1 deals, gifts with purchase, and access to events on some of their hair care picks. New Watsons App users can also get P100 off their first transaction with a minimum spend of P1,200

At the end of the day, your hair is more than just a look — it’s a part of your story. And Watsons is here to help you tell it, one flip at a time.

Filipino Streetwear Brand Conceit is Redefining Confidence through Fashion
20250711 Conceit Photo by Conceit

The Filipino streetwear scene may be oversaturated by boastful, printed designs, but this brand has made a name for itself with its minimal and emotional pieces

Conceit, a Filipino streetwear brand, is making waves in the local fashion scene by redefining confidence. Since launching in 2020, the brand has promoted self-expression through minimal and quietly confident pieces that encourage people to own their worth — loudly, proudly, and in style

Conceit offers a softer take on Filipino streetwear minimal, emotional, and quietly confident. It caters to individuals who want to express themselves without being too showy, focusing less on trends and more on personal frequency.

With each release, the brand leans further into creative risk while staying true to its core. Their newest collection, “Archive Series 1990 #NORULESSUMMER,” is a nod to ‘90s nostalgia, veering away from the typical summer trends in favor of a more basic yet thoughtful feel — true to Conceit’s DNA.

The launch drew in a vibrant crowd of media personalities, Gen Z content creators, and longtime supporters, all coming together for an afternoon of cool beats, good energy, and love for the brand.

While other brands get loud [about chasing] trends, Conceit stays rooted in our philosophy. Our clothes aren’t for impressing others; they’re for expressing yourself.”
