Join the Plastic Free July Movement Heres Where to Donate Old Plastic Toys in the PH 2

#PlasticFreeJuly is recognized as a special month to remind people about the risks of using plastic, not only to humans but to the environment as well. Everyone is encouraged to be part of the solution by becoming more conscious of the materials they use in order to build communities with cleaner streets and plastic-free oceans for the next generations.

Aside from avoiding single-use plastic straws or water bottles, parents or guardians may consider recycling old plastic toys if they’re not broken yet. Despite the damaging effect of plastic toys on the environment, we can’t deny the fact that toys bought from flea markets or tiangge in the Philippines offer a wide range of options at much lower prices. Hence, there is a higher demand for plastic toys compared to eco-friendly toys in the country.

Instead of throwing away your child’s old plastic toys, you may donate them to these local foundations and online communities that we’ve found on the web.

Green Antz Builders

Established in 2013, Green Antz Builders is a waste management company that focuses on circular economy and innovation. They create “hardest-to-recycle and lowest-value waste” solutions in minimizing the amount of waste being thrown away, generated, and currently existing in the fields of construction, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Aside from multi-layered plastics, the company also got involved in processing other types of plastic including organic, inorganic, construction, and industrial among others.

In line with their eco-friendly practices, Green Antz Builders also accepts plastic toy donations. Last September 2021, they organized a donation station in different shopping malls located throughout Metro Manila, where eco-warriors can drop off their unwanted items for disposal.

Just make sure that the plastic waste you’ll be donating is clean, empty, and dry including soft drink bottles, milk chugs, bubble wraps, plastic food containers, ball pens, and toys.

Donate a Toy Philippines

Headquartered in Mandaluyong City, Donate a Toy Philippines is a non-profit organization that aims to bring joy to as many children as possible through simple toys.

Donations of pre-owned plastic toys that promote learning like building blocks, construction toys, and musical instruments are accepted. They make sure that the toys are properly sorted and cleaned before delivering them to the children who cannot afford them.

Declutter Manila

Declutter Manila is a public group on Facebook that aims to “spread love and cultivate a spirit of generosity” through giving free items or bartering among other members.

Declutter Manila believes that your long-keep items might be a luxury or blessing to others. Buying and selling items within this platform is not allowed.

Any transactions between the sender and recipient are made between the parties involved only. You may donate preloved items like plastic toys, clothes, bags, slippers, learning materials, and more.

Childhope Philippines Foundation, Inc.

Childhope Philippines Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Paco, Manila that focuses on the welfare of Filipino street children. Some programs and services they provide are KalyEskwela (“school on the streets” in English translation), psychosocial aid and counseling, mobile health clinic (KliniKalye), and various workshops on leadership, computer literacy, sports, and arts, among others.

Apart from financial assistance, you may donate your child's old toys through the foundation’s website or social media accounts.

Pamigay: A Free Giving Online Community®

Another Facebook group where you can donate old plastic toys is the Pamigay: A Free Giving Online Community. This is a sharing group where users can share and post decluttered items that they want to let go of or are no longer useful for them.

Most of the secondhand items posted in this community include kids’ toys, shoes, and clothes. Pick-up and shipping options are available.
