It’s Cinemalaya season once again, cinephiles! This August, the Philippine independent film festival is set to make another splash with new full-length and feature films from a diverse set of filmmakers across the country.

Under the theme “Loob, Lalim, Lakas,” the festival’s 20th iteration will feature 10 full-length feature films and 10 short films, each showcasing the brilliance of Philippine indie cinema.

The following are the entries for the full-length film category:

  • Alipato at Muog” by JL Burgos
  • “An Errand” by Dominic Bekaert
  • Balota” by Kip Oebanda
  • Gulay Lang, Manong” by BC Amparado
  • Kantil” by Joshua Caesar Medroso
  • Kono Basho” by Jaime Pacena II
  • “Love Child” by Jonathan Jurilla
  • “The Hearing” by Lawrence Fajardo
  • “The Wedding Dance” by Julius Lumiqued
  • Tumandok” by Richard Jeroui Salvadico and Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay

Meanwhile, short film entries are as follows:

  • Abogbaybay (Shoredust)” by P.R. Monencillo Patindol
  • “All This Wasted Space” by Cris Bringas
  • Ambot Wa Ko Kabalo Unsay I-title Ani” by Rey Anthony Villaverde
  • An Baga sa Dalan (The Red Trails)” by Mariel Ritchie Jolejole and Roniño Dolim
  • “Cross My Heart and Hope to Die” by Sam Manacsa
  • “I was walking on the streets of chinatown” by Ryan Capili
  • Mama” by Alexandra Brizuela
  • Mariposa” by Melanie Faye
  • Pamalandong sa Danow (Reflection in the Marsh)” by Breech Asher Harani
  • “Primetime Mother” by Sonny Calvento

With the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) under renovation, the festival will be brought to its new location this year at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City. You can start watching these films from Aug. 2 to 11 at the said location.

Cinemalaya returns after a successful run last year, with big winners “Iti Mapukpukaw” by Carl Joseph Papa, “Rookie” by Samantha Lee, and “When This is All Over” by Kevin Mayuga taking home several awards.
