Celebrating the festival when the moon is as its brightest, Hong Kong lights up with bright lanterns, light shows, and dragon dances. Traditional Cantonese restaurant Kwan Cheuk Heen at the Harbour Grand in North Point is leading Mid-Autumn festival with four kinds of innovative yet traditional twists of the familiar mooncake, with ingredients such as 30-Year Aged Tangerine Peel and Red Bean Paste Moon Cake with Mochi, D24 Durian Custard Moon Cake, and Bird’s Nest and Egg Custard Moon Cake. The price of four homemade mooncakes ranges from HK$398 to HK$498.
Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Legendary and Traditional Mooncakes
Serving a wide range of Mid-Autumn delicacies till Oct. 3 from The Mandarin Cake Shop, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong hotel is selling premium options for mooncake flavours, including both traditional lotus, egg custard, and yolk ingredients, alongside unique champagne, oolong tea, and chocolate additions.
Traditional mooncake flavour Golden or White lotus with Two Yolks and Mini Egg Custard are priced at HK$498 for four pieces. Alternative options for mooncake aficionados are the specialty flavours, which include Chocolate Lava, Egg Custard and Red Bean Paste with Dried Tangerine Peel, priced at HK$468.
The Merchants' Homemade Suzhou-Style Mid-Autumn Mooncakes
From now until Sept. 28, The Merchants is rolling out its debut Mid-Autumn festivities with three new limited-edition mooncake gift box sets. In these homemade treats, award-winning executive chef Chen Tian Long and his team celebrate traditional Suzhou-style mooncakes, known for their multi-layered, flakey, and crumbly crust.
Options are the Signature Mooncakes Set (HK$480/4pcs) in four flavours; the Savoury Mooncakes Set (HK$520/4pcs) in Xiān Ròu Yuèbǐng and Jinhua ham flavours; and the Prestige Mooncakes Set (HK$1,880/8pcs), which comes in a hand-embroidered cherry wood box designed by Victoria Tang-Owen.
Vegan and Healthy Mooncakes for Mid-Autumn 2023
Health-conscious bakery The Cakery introduces a delightful range of Vegan Mochi and Lava Mini Mooncakes this Mid-Autumn, priced at HK$428 for a set of six. Each mooncake is encased individually and presented in a sophisticated dark teal recyclable box adorned with gold accents, epitomising elegance whilst delivering on sustainability.
On top of that, The Cakery has unveiled six enticing vegan mooncake flavours this year, namely Matcha Mochi, Earl Grey Black Sugar Mochi, Black Sesame Lava, Red Date Mochi, Chocolate Hazelnut Lava, and Coconut Peanut Lava. Additional items like the Palmier Gift Box (HK$238) are also on offer as an added treat. Ideal for elevating Mid-Autumn visits, this palmier pack features the signature vegan flavours of chocolate and salted caramel.
With pickups from Sept. 1, Matchali has created a series of preservative-free vegetarian mooncakes embracing the health and cultural benefits of green tea. This year, two captivating flavours are on offer: the Matcha Almond, blending matcha's light palate with almond's richness, and the Matcha Red Bean, pairing matcha with Hong Kong’s cherished dessert ingredient.
In addition to individual mooncakes, Matchali is introducing the Tranquillity Mooncake Set (HK$660) featuring both flavours of mooncakes, as well as The Harmony (HK$880) and Full Moon Sets (HK$820), which both feature the mooncakes alongside traditional Japanese tea essentials. The tea sets include a Chawan, Chashaku, and Chasen.
Amber Vegetarian Mooncakes with esca
Vegetarian-eating fans of Amber and chef Richard Ekkebus can revel with the launch of the fine-dining restaurant’s collaboration with Hong Kong vegetarian brand esca to promote two new flavours of mooncakes, namely the Pumpkin Kabocha with Pumpkin Seed and AN Soy, Conspiracy Chocolate Dak Lak Cocoa & Almonds. Baked fresh on a limited run of only HK$498, each mooncake box is crafted using earth-friendly FSC paper.

Whiskey legends Johnnie Walker has joined hands with Michelin-starred Lei Garden to curate a lavish Mooncake Gift Set this Mid-Autumn. Featuring Lei Garden's innovative Mini Lava Spirulina Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake, the pairing with Johnnie Walker Blue Label promises a harmonious blend of the smooth spirulina lotus paste against the rich texture of the whiskey.
