La Taverna Celebrates Valentine’s Day with a Rustic 5-Course Menu

Hong Kong’s oldest Italian restaurant, La Taverna, is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a special five-course menu rooted in classic Italian romance. Available from Feb. 14 to 15, 2026, the limited-time menu invites couples into an intimate celebration of love, tradition, and timeless flavors.

Located along Ashley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, La Taverna has been a fixture of Hong Kong’s dining scene since the 1960s. Often described as a living time capsule, the trattoria is known for its low-arched ceiling, original Italian furnishings, and hundreds of straw-wrapped Chianti bottles — details that have charmed and made it a second home for generations of diners, even for the city’s Italian community.

For Valentine’s Day, La Taverna presents its “Be My Valentine” menu, a five-course journey balancing nostalgia and indulgence, priced at HK$788 per person.

Highlights include an appetizer of Terrina di Fegato Graso al Pistacchio, a traditional creamy lobster bisque Zuppa d’Aragosta, and a striking Risotto di Barbabietola & Rose al Gorgonzola. For the mains, guests can choose between Australian Wagyu striploin or Atlantic black cod, before ending the romantic evening with La Mela del Peccato, a playful apple-forward dessert.

The celebrations continue beyond Valentine’s Day with La Taverna’s A Taste of Carnevale di Venezia,” available from Feb. 16 to Mar. 2, 2026, and priced at HK$588 per person. Inspired by Venice’s world-famous carnival, the feast includes a classic Antipasto di Cicchetti, a festive Lasagne di Carnevale, a veal scaloppine Saltimbocca di Vitello, and a trio of Dolci di Vitello — a nod to Italy’s pre-Lenten feasting traditions and celebrations.

Two-Star ‘Sushiyoshi’ Makes Its Macau Debut at MGM Cotai

Hiroki Nakanoue

Macau adds another heavyweight to its dining map as MGM Cotai welcomes Sushiyoshi this month. The Osaka-born restaurant, celebrated for its two Michelin stars, brings Chef Hiroki Nakanoue’s inventive take on omakase to the city, blending classic Edomae technique with forward-leaning interpretation.

Chef Nakanoue says Macau’s cultural mix aligns with the restaurant’s mission of pushing boundaries. His menus shift with the seasons and lean heavily on seafood sourced directly from Japanese prefectures, enhanced with refined European and local ingredients for layered flavor progression.

Sushiyoshi MGM Cotai Interior

The new space sits within MGM Cotai’s Emerald Lobby and draws from Sukiya-zukuri and Kare-sansui influences. A single-piece Hinoki sushi bar anchors the room, while contemporary works by Hsiao Chin and Macau artist Eric Fok add a crisp creative thread. A private dining room for six is designed in Wa-Kon-Yo-Sai style.

For its first Macau season, Sushiyoshi presents dishes such as Fukuoka Mackerel with Tofu Toast, where Kyoto cotton tofu marinated in white miso balances the richness of the fish. The Deep-fried Shrimp-shaped Taro with Hokkaido Sea Urchin leans on playful texture, while the Aomori Oma Tuna Sashimi showcases the prized “King of Tuna.”

Additional signatures include Foie Gras Ice-Cream with Caviar and a rotation of seasonal nigiri built around ingredients like Chiba Alfonsino, Okayama Oyster, and Saga Gizzard Shad.

Pet Dogs Will Soon Be Able to Enter Licensed Restaurants in Hong Kong

20260204 dog friendly restosPhoto by Instagram/ SPCA Hong Kong

Good news, furparents! Your doggos may soon be allowed to accompany you on your dinner outings by mid-2026!

The Hong Kong government is set to introduce a new voluntary license program that will permit dogs to enter up to 1,000 restaurants, as part of efforts to support the growing pet-friendly economy, announced during the Chief Executive’s 2025 Policy Address. This follows a decades-long rule that bans pet dogs inside restaurants, which was enacted in 1994.

Under the proposed arrangement, select food establishments will be allowed to welcome dogs indoors. The program will initially be limited to around 500 to 1,000 permits, allowing authorities to monitor and adjust before expanding it. Due to safety concerns, hotpot and BBQ restaurants are not included in the scheme.

Restaurants may apply for a permit for HK$140. Once approved, establishments must display clear signage that informs diners that they are dog-friendly. While dogs are allowed inside, they will not be permitted on dining tables. Restaurants will also be prohibited from preparing food for pets, although owners may bring food for their dogs.

In turn, pet owners will be responsible for taking care of their pets. Pet dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 1.5 metres or secured to a fixed object. Certain breeds, including Pit Bulls, Dogo Argentinos, Japanese Tosas, and Filas Brasileiros, will not be allowed indoors under the scheme.

The move is expected to give pet owners more options for casual meals, meet-ups, and weekend hangouts, while creating new business opportunities for the food and hospitality sector.

The initiative follows other recent pet-friendly efforts in the city, including the upcoming SPCA Dogathon charity event, where dogs will be allowed to ride on MTR trains.

While this is still in the works, you may check out these pet-friendly cafes in Hong Kong to bond with your loved ones while still having your furbabies with you!

The experience opens with a quartet of staples: Oeuf Mimosa au Caviar, Huître à la Sauce Mignonette, Salade de Chèvre Chaud with grilled goat’s cheese and crisp greens, and Steak Tartare prepared with Condiments de la Maison. Each dish honors technique and timelessness, offering a confident ode to the flavors that built France’s most enduring dining rooms.
