HK Legend Chow Yun-fat Honoured as Asian Filmmaker of the Year at 2023 BIFF
Hong Kong movie icon Chow Yun-fat has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the film industry by being named Asian Filmmaker of the Year at the upcoming Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The festival, known for its celebration of Asian cinema, will pay tribute to Chow’s illustrious career with special screening of his most iconic films.
From the mesmerizing martial arts epic “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” to the gripping crime drama “A Better Tomorrow,” audiences will have the chance to relive the magic that Chow has brought to the silver screen.
Chow’s portrayal of diverse and memorable characters has earned him global acclaim, and his journey from Hong Kong to Hollywood has solidified his status as a prominent figure in the film industry. The award will be presented to Chow in person during the festival’s opening ceremony, marking a momentous occasion for both the actor and his fans.
The Busan International Film Festival has also invited a stellar lineup of international guests, including renowned filmmakers such as Luc Besson, Hirokazu Koreeda, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi, as well as Chinese actor Fan Bingbing. This diverse gathering of talents reflects the festival’s commitment to showcasing the best of Asian and global cinema.
BIFF attendees can look forward to a captivating lineup of films, with the world premieres of “Because I Hate Korea” and “The Movie Emperor” opening and closing the festival, respectively. The Gala screenings will feature highly anticipated movies like “monster,” “Green Night,” and “The Beast.” Notably, there will be special programs dedicated to Indonesian cinema and Korean diaspora cinema, offering a rich tapestry of storytelling.
In addition, the festival will honour the late actor Yun Jung-hee and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto in a Special Screening section, paying tribute to their remarkable contributions to the world of cinema.
Hosted by Korean actor Song Kang-ho, the Busan International Film Festival will take place from Oct. 4 to 13, promising an unforgettable celebration of Asian and global cinema.
