The Chinnery Reopens at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong with New Menu

The Chinnery, an iconic fixture within the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, proudly announces its reopening after a meticulous and elegant refurbishment. A beloved institution since 1963, The Chinnery continues to offer an intimate sanctuary for those seeking a serene escape in the heart of the bustling city, blending historical allure with timeless sophistication.
Originally designed as a private gentlemen’s club, The Chinnery captures the essence of British colonial elegance with its rich mahogany timber paneling, plush carpets, and luxurious leather furnishings. Named in honor of 19th-century British artist George Chinnery, whose evocative works depicting British colonial life adorn the bar, The Chinnery seamlessly intertwines art and ambiance. A self-portrait of Chinnery prominently displayed at the entrance sets the tone for a richly historic experience.
To commemorate its reopening, The Chinnery has unveiled a special "Taste of The Chinnery" menu, available until Aug. 30, 2024. Priced at HK$ 1,963 for two, a nod to the year the hotel first opened, this exclusive menu combines beloved classic dishes with innovative new creations. The culinary journey begins with appetizers such as the traditional Lamb Samosa with fresh mint yoghurt and the new Keema Kulcha or Potato Kulcha paired with refreshing cucumber yoghurt.

For starters, guests can savor the Prime Tenderloin Tartare, a timeless dish prepared with a secret homemade sauce, cage-free egg, capers, gherkin, parsley, and served with white toast, or they can opt for the seasonal Broccoli Velouté, enriched with crème fraîche and coriander. Main courses feature a delightful blend of classics and new additions, including the renowned Classic Shepherd’s Pie made with organic lamb shoulder, carrot, celery, onion, and a rich tomato sauce, Indian Tikka Chicken cooked with fresh tomatoes, butter, yoghurt, aromatic spices, and basmati rice, and the new Bengali Mixed Fish Curry with fresh tomato, onion, ground mustard seeds, and ginger.
Accompanying these dishes are sides of Creamed Potato, Sautéed French Beans, and a selection of Naan Breads (Garlic, Butter, or Plain). The culinary experience concludes with desserts like the classic Chocolate Lava Cake with whisky ice cream and the new Phirni, a traditional Indian dessert with almond and pistachio crumble and rose petal ice cream.

The Chinnery remains celebrated for its extensive collection of over 120 rare single-malt whiskies from Scotland, Japan, Taiwan, and India. Complementing this is a focus on classic cocktails and whisky pairings, all served by a veteran staff renowned for their exceptional personalized service.
This revered bar has been a cornerstone of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, preserving much of its original decor to maintain the historic charm that has captivated generations of patrons.
