Transportation in Hong Kong is about to get an upgrade, as fintech company Wonder has announced that its newest digital payments platform has been approved by the HKSAR Transport Department, allowing passengers to make e-payments for their rides.

The platform, called “Taxi Pay,” will utilise a smart taxi metre, equipped with e-payment features with which passengers can conveniently choose whether to pay via scanning a QR code or tapping their cards on the dedicated terminal.

"Taxi Pay” also offers seamless payment settlements for taxi drivers, as they can immediately access their earnings after each trip with the platform without the need to wait for hours or days.

UnionPay users will also get a 10% discount for their rides in the next two months, while Visa, Mastercard, WeChat Pay, JCB, Diners, FPS, and Discover users will get 0% handling fee for the next three months.

Wonder is also providing free installation for taxi drivers who want vehicles equipped with their smart taxi metres and payment terminals.

In line with this, Wonder also introduced its Driver Assistant App, where taxi drivers can get passengers more efficiently and access their earnings. As of this writing, integration of the app HKeToll is also in the works, the company said in a press statement.
