The tale of “The Wizard of Oz” has yet to escape us. The beloved narrative, which began as a children’s novel, has since been adapted into multiple mediums. Aside from theatre plays, spinoffs, and movies, the cult classic has since been translated into a whimsical afternoon tea experience at The Lobby Lounge in Regent Hong Kong.

Preceding the premiere of the Hong Kong Ballet’s production – which will run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 – The Lobby Lounge has created an enchanting afternoon tea experience with sweet and savory bites reminiscent of the iconic characters we know and love.

Amidst panoramic views of Victoria Harbor, diners are welcome to enjoy gustatory sensations from Oz itself. Its signatures include a Lemon and Mint Confit wrapped in Ivory Chocolate Ganache and topped with Yuzu Cream and an adorable Gingham-Patterned Confection, which pays homage to young Dorothy’s iconic dress and her journey down the yellow brick road. Meanwhile, a bite of the Honey Sponge Cake made with Local Honey and Citrus Coulis will remind diners of the sweetness of the Cowardly Lion. A Tin Man-inspired chocolate creation melds cacao sponge, Valrhona 66% Caraïbe dark chocolate, and caramelized cacao nibs into the perfect afternoon cake that is also topped with a red candy heart.

One can also bring home a discovery box of sweets that include a delicate raspberry concoction in honor of the Scarecrow, and a vanilla cake in the shape of a ballerina (a tribute to the dancers of the Hong Kong Ballet).

Aside from these highlights crafted by pastry chef Andy Yeung, the afternoon tea set also includes savory bites made with complementary flavor profiles such as Blue Crab and Pomelo, Egg and Caviar, and Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese.

All these pair well with the Yellow Brick Road cocktail, a dynamic beverage that marries two surprising ingredients – tequila and chamomile ea – with passionfruit syrup and lemon juice. A nonalcoholic option takes the name of the earth-shaking tornado that hit Kansas City; introducing the Tornado mocktail, which packs a punch of fruity flavors from vanilla Rooibos tea, strawberry syrup, and lemon juice.
