World's Fastest Maglev Train Planned for Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou

China is making significant strides in its plans to develop high-speed maglev lines, with plans announced last weekend to introduce the world’s fastest maglev-powered train between Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, recording speeds of 650 kilometeres per hour, according to China Daily.

China's vision for high-speed maglev trains is not limited to specific regions. The country is conducting feasibility studies for a high-speed maglev line in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a key economic hub. The project aims to enhance regional integration and connectivity, boosting economic growth and prosperity in the area.

Alongside the Greater Bay Area high-speed network, plans have been introduced to build a high-speed maglev line between Sichuanese capital Chengdu and Chongqing, with trains capable of speeds of up to 800 km/h. This comes as China positions itself to facilitate talent flow among neighbouring provinces and boost regional economic growth.

It also reflects the Chinese government’s push to boost its rail transit sector. In mid-2021, China Railway Rolling Stock Corp Qingdao Sifang unveiled a prototype maglev train with a designed top speed of 600 km/h and an expected commercial rollout in five to 10 years.
