Enter a New World in These Hidden Bars and Speakeasies in Singapore
They say that the exterior of a business is important as it’s what entices customers to step inside and try what they have to offer. But what if some of these establishments are so (smartly) hidden, you wouldn’t think of them as a bar? If you’re looking to discover Singapore’s well-kept nightlife secrets, we’ve listed below some hidden speakeasies and resto bars worth checking out.
Mama Diam
Behind a retro magazine shelf lies the entrance to Mama Diam’s hidden speakeasy. With the bar’s old school outdoor area, one wouldn’t expect that an intimate nightlife experience awaits guests as they step inside. The contrast between the nostalgic exterior and modern interior will make anyone feel as if they entered a new world.
Mama Diam is open every Sunday to Thursday from 4 PM-10:30 PM, with longer hours until midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and eve of public holidays (PH). Check out their food menu and drinks menu to see their current collaborations.
Location: Mama Diam, 38 Prinsep Street #01-01
The Hidden Story
Lined up among a street of shophouses in Katong is Stirling Steaks, where opening a freezer door will take you to a Prohibition era-inspired speakeasy. Guests don’t have to feel intimidated when opening the door to The Hidden Story, as they offer vintage interiors and cocktails that encapsulate the rich heritage of Peranakan culture. They also offer happy hours and some retro beats at night for the ultimate experience.
The Hidden Story is open every Monday to Saturday from 6 PM ‘til midnight. Reserve your spot via Oddle for sure seats.
Location: The Hidden Story, 115A East Coast Road
Taylor Adam
What looks like a regular suit shop on the outside is actually an intimate speakeasy discreetly tucked away in the heart of the CBD. Step inside the fitting room and be magically transported into a classy bar where you’ll be served with curated cocktails that come with their own unique story. In line with the concept, their bartenders and staff wear bespoke apparel to make sure they’re well-dressed for each guest.
Taylor Adam is open every Monday to Saturday from 5 PM ‘til midnight. Reserve a seat for you and your friends via SevenRooms.
Location: Taylor Adam, 1 Raffles Place, #01-03
Bincho
Located in Singapore's hippest neighbourhood, this yakitori restaurant and bar by chef Asai Masashi is behind Hua Bee, an old school mee pok house and café that serve traditional favourites like kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs. At night, a grungy setting fused with rich Japanese culture will greet you, bringing you back to “the cyberpunk, dystopian-esque alleyways of metropolitan Japan.”
Bincho is open every Wednesday to Sunday from 6 PM ‘til midnight. Reserve a table via Chope if you’re in for some good food and drinks at Tiong Bahru.
Location: Bincho, 78 Moh Guan Terrace, #01-19
The Dragon Chamber
Behind the fridge door of an unassuming kopitiam is Dragon Chamber, a hidden restaurant and bar that serves a wide selection of Chinese favourites. It’s inspired by “a provocative past of old-time Chinatown gambling dens and notorious secret society hangouts,” where guests can enjoy unconventional recipes with their choice of cocktails, beer, sake, wines, and other alcoholic beverages.
Dragon Chamber is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM-3 PM (lunch) and from 5 PM-10:30 PM (dinner). Visit their website for more info about their drinks, a la carte, and event set menus.
Location: The Dragon Chamber, 2 Circular Road
