The Best LGBTQ+ Friendly Bars in Singapore for a Fun, Judge-free Night Out

The Best LGBTQ friendly Bars in SG for a Fun Judge free Night Out

Drinking and partying with friends is one of the best things you can do to let out some steam. But where? While regular bars have their own charm, there’s a sense of belonging when you visit an inclusive establishment full of guests who accept you for who you are. Pride Month or not, these LGBTQ+ friendly bars in Singapore are here to give you a fun and judge-free night out. Check them out!

Tantric Bar & May Wong’s Café

One of the city’s most popular gay bars, Tantric Bar rests in a heritage shophouse along Neil Road in the heart of Chinatown. It isn’t easy to miss, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when partygoers of all orientations enjoy their cocktails and double-shot house pours (S$13) in its indoor bar and open-air courtyard.

If you want a place to rest when things get too loud, you can visit May Wong’s Café upstairs and sit on its comfortable sofas while eating warm finger food. Nights are also more relaxed on other days of the week, which is ideal for those looking to de-stress after work.

Tantric Bar is open daily from 8 PM-3 AM. To reserve a table, message +6598274846 via SMS or WhatsApp.

Location: Tantric Bar, 80A Neil Rd.

Backstage Bar

If you’re ready for Round 2, there’s no need to go far because the Backstage Bar is just a few steps away from Tantric Bar. Also owned by Singapore's most popular rainbow landmark, the Home of the Blue Spin, this gay bar boasts more than 16 years of heritage and glamour. What sets it apart is its theme: theatre, which explains why the walls are filled with retro theatre and film posters. As for the atmosphere, it’s a pretty chill-out place that blends amazing cocktails with a lively nightlife for the young and old.

Backstage Bar is open daily from 8 PM-3 AM. To reserve a table, message +6598274846 via SMS or WhatsApp.

Location: Backstage Bar, 80 Neil Rd.

Dorothy’s Bar

Okay, maybe you’re a heavyweight and are looking for a last stop or an alternative Round 2 before calling it a day. We got you.

Another Chinatown favourite, Dorothy’s Bar is only a seven-minute walk (or longer when you’re tipsy!) from Tantric Bar. It’s not easy to miss with its rainbow flag and yellow signage outside. Inside, you’ll be transported in a Wizard of Oz-inspired atmosphere with cocktails that are friendly to the budget.

Dorothy’s Bar is open daily from 6 PM-1 AM on Mondays to Fridays, until 2 AM on Saturdays, and from 3 PM-1 AM on Sundays. If you arrive before opening and would like to pass time, you can take photos of the popular Chinatown Market Wall Mural Art by Yip Yew Chong at the corner or check out the other shophouses nearby.

Location: Dorothy’s Bar, 13A Trengganu St.

Lluvia

“There will be no rainbow without... Lluvia!” The Spanish word for rain, Lluvia is among the few inclusive karaoke bars in Chinatown. It’s known for being the hangout place of “bears,” a gay slang referring to a bulkier and hairier physique, and the community that loves them. It also hosts drag shows and special events, so you can have fun with friends or meet new ones!

Lluvia is open from 7 PM-12 MN every Monday to Thursday and until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar is closed every Tuesday. As of writing, Lluvia is closed for renovation until June 30 and will reopen on July 1.

Location: Lluvia, 145 Telok Ayer St.

Taboo

Taboo is one of the oldest gay nightclubs in Singapore. Finding its new home on Duxton Road, which is only a few steps away from Neil Road, the two-storey club is a hot favourite among the young mainstream crowd. It also has a lounge bar in the loft area where you can chill and rest your feet from all the dancing. To level up the fun, follow their socials for themed party announcements and guest DJs.

Taboo is open from 6:30 PM-12 MN every Tuesday to Saturday. Message or call 88993308 on WhatsApp for reservations. For upcoming events, you can follow their Eventbrite page.

Location: Taboo, 57 Duxton Rd.
