Kid-Friendly Outdoor Spaces in Metro Manila and Nearby Provinces if You’re Wary to Go to Malls

Kid Friendly Outdoor Spaces in Metro Manila and Nearby Provinces if Youre Wary to Go to Malls Photo by Facebook/Hiraya Childhood Play Farm

After dilly-dallying for quite a while, the Philippine government has finally allowed kids inside malls amid a downward trend in COVID-19 cases, paired with improvements in the national vaccination drive. The decision comes on the heels of the de-escalation of Metro Manila’s COVID-19 restrictions to Alert Level 2, which means businesses such as restaurants can operate at a larger capacity while age restrictions are discarded outside individuals’ homes.

For parents who have found ingenious ways to entertain kids inside their homes, this is a welcome decision. After all, being cooped up at home for nearly two years does take a toll on someone else’s mental health. Hence, it’s no wonder that many parents scrambled to go to the malls with their kids, many of whom haven’t been in one since they were born.

While it’s easy to raise our eyebrows at the sight of kids crowding indoor spaces at a time when the virus is still lurking, it’s hard to blame the parents especially those who have limited options. Not all of us have the capacity to go out of town where restrictions are much looser. To help ease your dilemma, here are outdoor spaces in Metro Manila and nearby provinces where kids are allowed to wander around.

StrEAT Market

Streat Market

You can now take your children to restaurants for al fresco dining but if you’re still reluctant to go inside a mall, why not try food parks and night markets? Inspired by Bangkok’s Chatuchak market, StrEat Market is filled with stalls selling American-style burgers, corn dogs, Takoyaki, pizza, pasta, desserts, Pinoy street food, and juices. South peeps can visit their set-up in McKinley Hill, while those coming from the north can swing by the recently opened stalls in Greenhills, San Juan. Kids and pets are welcome!

Click here to know more about their schedule.

Hiraya Childhood Play Farm

Hiraya Childhood Play Farm
Facebook/Hiraya Childhood Play Farm

Spanning 1.2 hectares, this kid-friendly outdoor space near Metro Manila is a family-run farm that accepts only one group per day as an added precaution (and for privacy, too!). That means the entire area is exclusive to you from 9 AM to 5 PM! Aside from wandering through the greeneries, kids will enjoy a myriad of activities like pottery, horseback riding, interacting with animals, and swimming. A one-day tour costs P5,000 during weekdays and P7,000 during weekends for eight people, excluding kids aged one and below. The maximum capacity is 25, with P500 per additional person.

Check out Hiraya Childhood Play Farm’s Facebook page to book your slot.

Bonifacio Global City’s Parks

You don’t have to spend much for a day out under the sun with your kids. BGC has given us kid-friendly outdoor spaces in Metro Manila where you and your littles ones can walk, jog, bike, and roam around for free.

  • North Triangle Park
  • Burgos Circle Park
  • Track 30th
  • My Street, High Street
  • Neo Park
  • Terra 28th
  • Kasalikasan Garden
  • Sundial Park
  • BGC Greenway
  • Kiddie Wheely Parks: De Jesus Oval, McKinley Parkway, 31st St., and 27th St.

Intramuros

Intramuros Manila

For something fun but also educational, head over to Intramuros and let your kids experience the Walled City under the Spanish rule. Be sure to hop on a kalesa as you tour this famous Manila landmark’s cobbled streets and colonial architecture.

Little Baguio of Rizal (Antipolo)

Little Baguio of Rizal
Facebook/Ning Mojica

Aptly nicknamed “Little Baguio of Rizal,” this landmark is tucked away in Antipolo and is easily recognizable by the tall pine trees lining up the road. The guarded lot is a private property but it has been open to the public since the pandemic to accommodate visitors from Metro Manila and nearby provinces who are craving for green and open spaces after months of being cooped up at home. Kids and kids-at-heart are welcome to this place free of charge!

Commuters and cashless payment enthusiasts, rejoice!

Visa contactless payments are now live at MRT-3 stations, giving over 350,000 daily commuters a faster and more secure way to pay—no more fumbling through your pockets for cash or queuing long lines for tickets!

Since its start on July 25, 2025, passengers can simply tap their Visa credit, debit, or prepaid card, or any Visa-enabled mobile device, directly at the turnstiles. This new feature is part of Visa’s continued support for open-loop transit systems in the Philippines, in partnership with GCash and the Department of Transportation

Through our partnership with the Department of Transportation and GCash, we’re enabling faster, safer, and more seamless journeys for commuters across Metro Manila.”

With all that in mind, we’d love to bring you in on our experience of staying at Quest Plus Conference Center Clark for a night.

Our Stay at Quest Plus Conference Center Clark

A week before our stay at Quest Plus Conference Center Clark, the hotel made check-in seamless with a smooth pre-registration process. We received a link that let us generate a QR code for the Express Check-In /Check-Out machines in the lobby — super convenient, too!

Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the machines were out of service (tough luck!). Still, the check-in process was as quick and easy, thanks to the friendly and accommodating staff who stepped in right away and made us feel at home.

Another thing to mention was Quest Plus Conference Clark’s incredible hospitality and service. A standout is their free shuttle service to different places close to the hotel — including a service to and from their parking spaces, even if it was just close to the hotel lobby!

We stayed in a Deluxe Room, which welcomed us with cozy and charming interiors that immediately felt inviting. The 22 sqm room didn’t feel too tight, especially with the large rooms that opened to views of the swimming pool and let in a soft stream of natural light in the room. The windows also had wood sliding shutters that perfectly blocked out sunlight and gave a sense of privacy and security.

The deluxe room with two single beds.

At the center of the room was a plush, queen-sized bed that’s complemented by a comfy sofa bed on the side — perfect for lounging, especially if you’re the type who avoids sitting on the bed in “outside clothes.” The bathroom was aptly sized with all the essentials laid out. We did wish it had a bidet, but for a one-night stay, it was more than enough.

Across the bed is a small workspace, ideal for catching up on emails or last-minute meetings if you’re on a business trip. The wardrobe also had enough space to hang your outfits, with a little bit of space to spare for other things.

Quest Plus Conference Center Clark’s Amenities and Facilities

Quest Hotels and Resorts is known for their curated experiences and little pleasures that fuel “Your Quest For Life.” At Quest Plus Clark, that philosophy comes to life through their warm, inviting spaces that balance comfort and functionality with ease.

And of course, it won’t be a hotel stay well-spent if you don’t try at least some of their amenities!

We took a quick stroll around the hotel to explore the amenities before trying them out ourselves. From our room, we spotted the pool area — and to our surprise (and delight), it had foam machines running every few minutes during the day. Swimming suddenly looked less like an Olympic sport and more like a fun, mini party for kids and kids-at-heart.

The view of the pool from the hotel room.

We did stop by for a short swim at night, and it was still a great experience even without the foam machines. One side of the pool had a volleyball net and some rubber balls, where people could play while wading in the water. The pool wasn’t that deep either, with the kids’ pool going as deep as 2 feet, and the adults’ pool going for about 5 feet.

People could also enjoy some food and drinks by the poolside too, which is great if you’re only there for the vibes and a quick yap session with your friends.

Next stop: the Equinox Fitness Center, located on the ground floor. And honestly? It was enormous for a hotel gym. Equipped with top-of-the-line gear, it had everything from barbell zones and free weights to a solid cardio section and machines for resistance and functional training. There’s even a private studio space for stretching, yoga, pilates — everything.

The Equinox Fitness Center is open to hotel guests and non-hotel guests.

And if you’re someone who has to get a workout even while on staycation (a.k.a. us), this gym is chef’s kiss. Truly the best we’ve seen in a local hotel.

Quest Plus Clark is conveniently found right across the iconic Mimosa Plus Golf Course, home to two 18-hole courses designed for both seasoned players and casual golfers alike. The destination was hailed as the “Philippines’ Best Golf Course” in the 2024 World Golf Awards — while Quest Plus Clark also bagged the title of “Philippines’ Best Golf Hotel” in the same list.

To our dismay, we didn’t get the chance to visit the course this time, but that just gives us more reasons to come back!

In-Room Dining and the Breakfast Buffet at Mequeni Live

A hotel stay is never complete without sampling their in-house food and beverage offerings. For us, we started off with their In-Room Dining because what’s better than poolside lounging followed by food in bed, right?

Fresh from our dip in the pool, we decided to go for a treat. Scanning the menu, the 6oz Angus Beef Burger and Pepperoni and Parmesan Pizza instantly caught our attention. With just one quick phone call, our cravings were on their way.

In about 20 to 30 minutes, our food arrived — warm and incredibly appetizing. It’s the kind of comfort meal that definitely hits different when you’re cozied up in a bathrobe in a warmly lit room.

The serving size was perfect for two people, with the Angus beef burger cooked to medium well perfection and a side of Fries for a crunch. The Pepperoni and Parmesan Pizza was seasoned well, too.

In short, we loved it. The flavors were right on the money, and the convenience of it all was great. That said, we do wish the In-Room Dining Menu offered a bit more variety. Including some of the hotel’s signature dishes would be a great touch, giving guests the chance to experience the best of Quest Plus’ F&B offerings without having to leave the comfort of their room.

The next morning, it was time to try out the Breakfast Buffet at Mequeni Live, Quest Plus Clark’s in-house all-day buffet. Just by the entrance, Mequeni Live had a guide that detailed their slow and peak hours to give diners a tip on when to drop by.

After a quick workout at the Equinox Fitness Center, we headed straight to the buffet — rolling in just before 9:30 AM — and found the restaurant still busy with diners. Inside, the space was glowing with warm yellow lighting, accented by the inviting shades of brown, beige, and white. The interiors were modern and sleek, giving the feel of understated elegance that made breakfast a little more elevated than your usual one.

The layout was interesting too: we were greeted first by the dessert and sweets section (which included a Filipino kakanin section!), while the rest of the buffet stations were set on a slightly elevated floor. Despite this tiered setup, the flow was still easy to navigate through and was without the awkward shuffling.

The Omelet / Eggs station is one of the stations at Mequeni Live, offering different ways to cook your eggs and other breakfast viands.

The spread itself was generous and mouth-watering, with classic Western options like bacon, eggs, sausages, and hashbrowns, alongside Filipino favorites like longganisa, tuyo, corned beef, and more. There were also some Chinese comfort foods, a noodle station, soup station, and more — there was something for every kind of breakfast person.

Of course, we didn’t miss out on trying out famous Kapampangan viands such as the Chorizo and Chicken Tocino. Our take? We wish the Chicken Tocino had a bit more flavor and could have been cooked a bit more, though that just might be our preference talking.

The breakfast was absolutely filling, and if we had some more space in our stomachs, we could have come back for seconds.

Check Out Thoughts

Now for the final verdict: would we choose to stay at Quest Plus Conference Center Clark again? 10s across the board, yes!

Quest Plus Conference Center Clark is a must-visit whenever you’re at Clark; it’s the perfect place for a fun staycation if you’re looking to take a break from Metro Manila. From the charmingly decorated rooms, the amazing amenities, and the incredibly satisfying food at the In-Room Dining and at Mequeni Live, it hit all our must-haves for our stay.

Beyond the hotel’s comfort and service, Quest Plus Clark’s thoughtful sustainability efforts also deserve a shout-out. For one thing, the hotel has phased out the use of single-use plastics, opting for more eco-conscious alternatives such as providing a glass pitcher in every room and water refilling stations on every floor.

That was something we really appreciated during our stay at Quest Plus Conference Center Clark, and it is one thing hotels could also do to be more mindful of our environmental impact.

If you’re looking for an amazing stay at Clark, then Quest Plus Conference Clark is the hotel you should stay in.

Students Get 50% Discount on PH Trains Through Established Student Lanes
MRT Photo by The Department of Transportation/Facebook

Some good news for student commuters! You can now get a half-price fare discount at MRT-3 and LRT-2’s dedicated student lanes

Last month, it was announced that the student fare discount across all railways will be raised from 20% to 50%, and will be effective until 2028. However, it’s only available for single-journey tickets, so students are still required to line up at the booths to claim the fare reduction.

Following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., student lanes will now be in place at MRT-3 and LRT-2 line stations to eliminate queuing and avoid inconveniencing passengers.

We shouldn’t make verification difficult for student discounts, so the flow of passengers will be more efficient and students won’t be late for school),” said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.

On the other hand, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), which operates the LRT-1 line, will be implementing queuing systems instead to manage passenger flow and minimize delays for students availing the fare reduction.

Hopefully, this new queuing system will make commuting easier for students and improve overall efficiency across all railway stations in Metro Manila

The Philippines is no longer treating halal travel as a niche — and the recently concluded Salaam 2025 Halal Travel and Trade Expo proved just that.

According to the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2025, the country is “steadily positioning itself as a Muslim-friendly destination by strengthening its capacity to welcome Muslim travelers.” These efforts include expanding access to Halal-certified food, integrating Muslim-friendly features in key tourist sites, and launching nationwide initiatives to improve hospitality — from halal accommodations to cultural awareness to cater to the needs of Muslim visitors.

Held at the Quantum Skyview, Upper Ground B of the Gateway Mall 2 in Quezon City, the Salaam Expo brought together tourism boards, Muslim and halal product providers, health practitioners, hospitality groups, and cultural organizations from across the Philippines.

More than a showcase of goods and services, the expo was a collective statement that affirms the Philippines’ readiness to welcome more Muslim brothers and sisters from around the world. The event highlighted the collaboration between the public and private sectors in creating more inclusive, halal-friendly Philippine tourist destinations.

But what exactly does “halal” mean, and why does it matter in tourism?

Often associated with Islamic dietary laws, the term “halal” is used beyond food. It refers to what is permissible or lawful in Islam, encompassing ethics, lifestyle, business practices, and daily routines

In travel, “halal” doesn’t just mean what’s on the menu; it also includes access to prayer spaces, modest accommodations, respectful service, and experiences that align with one’s faith. While halal travel is rooted in Islamic values, it isn’t exclusive to Muslim travelers — it’s a thoughtful way of traveling that can be enjoyed and appreciated by anyone, regardless of their religion.

Held from June 27 to 29, 2025, the three-day expo was a celebration of Filipino Muslim identity, respect, and inclusivity, bringing together halal brands and regional leaders to spotlight their goods and services.

Across the Quantum Skyview event floor, halal-certified brands, Muslim-friendly destinations, cultural performances, and meaningful conversations came together to create a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the future of halal travel in the country.

Most of the exhibitors were from the food industry, a nod to the Department of Tourism’s efforts to position the Philippines as a top culinary tourism destination. Highlights include the province of Sultan Kudarat, one of the leading coffee producers in the country, Fatima’s Halal Restaurant, the first Filipino halal-certified restaurant in Manila, Mama Sita’s, and Maggi

Also present were key players like the Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines, Inc., as well as hospitality giants Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, Robinsons Hotels & Resorts, and Dusit Hotels & Resorts — each one showcasing their commitment to Muslim-friendly service and halal-friendly offerings.

Beyond the booths, products, and promotions, Salaam 2025 was ultimately about fostering trust, respect, cultural understanding, and a more inclusive future. Throughout the three-day affair, numerous known personalities, such as Samira Gutoc and Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, graced the event and shared words that left a lasting impression on the attendees.

During the closing ceremony, Department of Tourism Undersecretaries Maria Rica C. Bueno and Myra Paz Valderrosa Abubakar, along with Marites Maguindra, Director of the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), offered reflections on their shared vision for the future of halal tourism in the Philippines.

“Today, we reaffirm that Muslim-friendly tourism is not a niche; it is an essential part of a more sustainable, respectful, and people-centered tourism industry,” shared Usec. Bueno during her opening remarks. “We have seen that Muslim-friendly tourism is already thriving in many corners of our country, ready to be discovered, appreciated, and supported.”

She went on to detail key initiatives led by Usec. Abubakar under the Department of Tourism, including capacity building and recognition programs for Muslim-friendly establishments, halal culinary development, and strategic collaborations with certifying bodies and tourism stakeholders.

She also highlighted that the Philippines will be hosting the ASEAN 2026, with plans to conduct a series of trainings for tour guides and frontline tourism workers in the host destinations, to ensure a deeper understanding of Muslim travelers.

Marites Maguindra, the Director of the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism of the BARMM, shared how moved she felt by the growing national talks around halal and the strong turnout of exhibitors at the expo, saying that “Halal is truly for everyone.”

She strongly emphasized that while the BARMM has long led halal efforts in the country, the goal has never been to keep it regional.

“We are not alone [as the BARMM region] when it comes to talking on halal,” she said. “But we always ensure that the Halal program doesn’t just speak for the region but will truly encompass the interests of the entire Philippines. Because this is very important to Muslims inside and outside the BARMM, but also for the economy of the Philippines.”

Abubakar closed the affair on a hopeful and appreciative note, thanking everyone who took part in the event. “Your presence here is a resounding testament that the Philippines is more than ready to receive our Muslim travelers both locally and abroad, to give them the best that we can offer,” she said.

“The Philippines has come a long way in the realm of halal industry friendly tourism, but just as I always say, ‘Malayo pa, pero malayo na.’ Much has been done, but there is still so much to do. It is my fair belief and hope that all of you here will remain with us as we do more, win more, and achieve more in our journey in making the Philippines a premier destination for our Muslim travelers.”

Final Thoughts

As Salaam 2025 ended, it was clear that the event was more than just a regular expo — it was a turning point for Philippine tourism. It was a reminder that halal tourism isn’t just about policy, products or services, but about the people

While the path to becoming a truly halal-friendly country is still far, the Philippines is slowly moving forward to that goal with intention. Echoing the words of USec. Abubakar, there is still so much to do and to learn, but everything is slowly coming together.

With events like Salaam 2025, the Philippines is not only opening its doors to Muslim travelers around the world but is embracing a future built on cultural understanding and respect. The Philippines is known for its warm hospitality, and initiatives like this show that the country is committed to making every traveler feel at home.

Chroma Hospitality Unveils its Newest Hotel Line, Grafik Hotel Collection
Grafik Photo by Chroma Hospitality, Grafik Hotel Collection

A fresh, new story is unfolding real soon, and it all begins with “Chapter One.”

Chroma Hospitality, the premier hospitality group behind Crimson Hotels & Resorts and Quest Hotels, is writing a new chapter with their boldest hotel concept: Grafik Hotel Collection

Designed for the curious, the creative, and the conscious, Grafik isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a place to feel and to be. Set to open its first properties in the cool, pine-kissed city of Baguio and the coral-rich shores of Moalboal, Grafik invites everyone to explore destinations less traveled. Each destination offers a stay that’s immersive, imaginative, and deeply rooted in the locality's soul.

At the heart of Grafik lies the belief that travel is storytelling — and the best ones are always the ones found off the beaten path. Every space is made with intention, blending thoughtful design with cultural respect, turning even the smallest of details into something unforgettable.

Grafik is made for the ones who chase experiences, not just landmarks. Whether traveling solo, with friends, or alongside family, Grafik guests are united by the desire to experience the world more fully.

The Soul of the Grafik Experience

Grafik isn’t just a stay, it’s a narrative. Behind every stay lies three main pillars that shape every property’s design, heart, and story.

First is thoughtful and evocative design. Drawing inspiration from local textures, landscapes, and materials, every Grafik property is created to inspire imagination and calm.

Second is destination. Each Grafik property is rooted in places rich in story, whether it be a vibrant cultural enclave, a tranquil coastal town, or a creative urban hub. These aren’t simply locations; they are living, breathing backdrops waiting to be discovered.

And lastly, differentiation. Grafik offers bespoke experiences rooted in local narratives like weaving traditions and coral reef explorations, allowing each stay to feel genuinely connected to its setting.

To enrich the journey even further, Grafik introduces its signature brand expressions that elevate each stay:

  • Colorful Cuisines: Grafik’s culinary program is a love letter dedicated to Filipino heritage. Every menu celebrates local and seasonal produce, and every dish is a sensory journey — one that evokes nostalgia and sparks new stories.
  • Chapter One: Every story starts with Chapter One, and for Grafik, it sets the tone for a journey filled with reflection and meaning.
  • Curious Collections: A curated, hyperlocal collection of objects and materials, this connects guests with the community’s creative spirit and further deepens their cultural experience.

Immersing oneself in the local community while traveling is difficult, especially with an unwritten “boundary” that shouldn’t be crossed. James Montenegro, Country Manager of Chroma Hospitality, said that their goal as hotel operators is to break those boundaries to let the community know that people want to learn more about them and to respect them.

“That’s what we’re trying to do at Grafik,” he said. “Our goal is to collaborate with the communities and to bring out different things that have not been done.”

Grafik Hotel Collection: Embrace Life, Create Memories, Live Vivid

The Grafik Hotel Collection is a collection of distinctively unique properties that speak their own language, shaped by their surroundings. From the pulse of urban streets to the stillness of the sea, Grafik lives in many forms, each one designed for every curious traveler.

Grafik City captures the lively energy of the urban centers. Rooted in culture and fueled by creativity, these spaces are made for movement, connection, and discovery.

Grafik Resort offers an escape to where nature embraces you, and every moment feels like a quiet revelation. Here, time slows down, so the senses awaken.

Grafik Nude is Grafik’s most stripped-back expression. Raw, honest, and deeply mesmerizing, this is where luxury is found in simplicity, and where less invites you to feel more.

Together, they form the Grafik Hotel Collection. Grafik is not just where you stay, it is where your story begins. With every destination, every collaboration, and every chapter, Grafik invites its guests to live vividly, explore meaningfully, and return revitalized.

The Grafik Hotel Collection is set to open four unique properties across the Philippines — in Baguio, Moalboal, Duawon, and Dauin. According to James Montenegro, these destinations were chosen accordingly to align with Grafik’s vision: immersing guests in the signature experiences of each setting.

“When you look at it, there’s a big experiential gap,” said James Montenegro. “In Dauin, we’re focusing on perfecting the diving experience — bringing it up to par with all the others around the country. In Moalboal, it’s about curating the Northern Cebu journey — from canoeing and the sardine run, to hiking Osmeña peak, and even traditional basket weaving. It’s how we curate those experiences for customers that will make it more memorable, to bring out the soul of the destination.”
