¡Vaya! La Rambla by Catalunya Returns to Their Roots with a New Chapter

¡Vamos a La Rambla!
La Rambla by Catalunya has finally reopened with renewed energy and the spirit of its original iteration, Catalunya. One of Hong Kong’s most beloved Spanish restaurants, La Rambla by Catalunya‘s reopening sees a refreshed space, a menu reviving classic Catalunya dishes, and a renewed focus on the heart of Catalan hospitality.
La Rambla by Catalunya is named after Barcelona’s most famous street, La Rambla, which is known for its vibrant and inviting energy. With its reopening and a focus on a more luxurious approach, founder Gerald Li says that the restaurant brings back their original warmth, excitement, and energy while continuing to refine and elevate the experience.
“Catalunya was our first restaurant and my passion project, created to bring Spanish culinary vibrancy to Hong Kong. Over time, we embraced a more modern approach, but after the pandemic, people are craving restaurants that feel lively, social, and full of energy – places that bring people together.”

La Rambla by Catalunya’s refreshed interiors were inspired by renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, with bolder colors, intricate Spanish tiles, and traditional Spanish red brick, creating a vibrant yet sophisticated space. Every element has been considered, down to the entirely new collection of crockery, boasting La Rambla’s Spanish identity.
The two private dining rooms were also refreshed — one offering an intimate setting for six guests, and the other giving a bold, colorful space for fourteen, ideal for group gatherings.
The La Terazza terrace has also been given a new life, created in collaboration with Veuve Clicquot. The terrace channels a relaxed yet stylish beach club atmosphere, inspired by Barcelona’s famous beach culture of locals spending long, sun-drenched lunches and lively evenings by the sea. Featuring Veuve Clicquot’s signature Solaire yellow décor, and chic lounge seating, it’s ideal for long afternoons, sunset drinks, and late-night celebrations. With one of the best harbor views in Central, the terrace is also a prime spot for watching Hong Kong’s fireworks and drone displays.

Executive Chef Gil helms the kitchen, crafting a menu honoring Catalan culinary traditions while presenting them in an elevated, modern way. Many of Catalunya’s most popular dishes return, along with new creations showcasing his innovative approach.
The classic dishes making their return include the Avocado Lobster Roll, Segovian Suckling Pig (Cochinillo), and Bombas. New highlights include the Anchovy Butter Toast, Chorizo & Lentil Stew, Dry-Aged Rubia Gallega T-Bone, and Oxtail & Red Wine Caramelized Onion Tart Tatin with Foie Mousse.
The Suckling Pig Show, a signature of Catalunya, also returns, where chefs carve the pig tableside with a plate before smashing the plate, adding to the immersive dining experience.

La Rambla is also Hong Kong’s official ambassador for Joselito, Spain’s most prestigious jamón ibérico producer, and a family-owned company with more than 160 years of history. Widely regarded as the finest jamón in the world, the Joselito hams carefully picked for La Rambla are aged for over 60 months and are sourced exclusively from 100% acorn-fed Iberian pigs.
Renowned mixologist John Nugent developed a sherry-forward cocktail selection highlighting Spain’s rich aperitif culture. Signature drinks include Andalusia, a bright and refreshing cocktail featuring fino sherry, and the Cinque Terra Spritz, an elegant take on the classic spritz. The Café Español is a sophisticated espresso martini with Pedro Ximénez sherry and La Rambla’s signature Sangria Catalunya rounds out the menu and is perfect for the terrace’s vibrant setting. Guests can also enjoy the La Rambla G&T, served on tap, offering a refreshing and unique twist with mandarin, pandan, and saline.
La Rambla by Catalunya marks a new era for Spanish dining in Hong Kong, with its renewed focus on its heritage, an inviting atmosphere, and a menu blending nostalgia with innovation. The restaurant invites its guests to rediscover what made Catalunya a legend—a place to indulge, celebrate, and experience the best of Catalan hospitality.
