Enjoy Hassle-Free Travels With HKIA's New Smart Security Screening System
Tired of taking out your personal stuff for screening in airports? The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has come up with a solution, as the statutory body is set to introduce a new smart security screening system at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
This initiative is to “further enhance passenger experience and operational performance,” HKIA said in a press release.
With the new system in place, passengers can now keep their laptops, mobile phones, other electronic devices, liquids, gels, and aerosols in their carry-on luggage, eliminating the need to take them out for screening.
This new system is powered by 3D and 360-degree CT-based X-ray scanning technology for screening, as well as passenger-friendly functions like automatic alerts, auto tray recirculation, and built-in tray sterilization.
Those who will not be able to pass the archway metal detector will need to undergo further screening at the full-body scanner instead of the usual manual search with handheld detectors.
The smart screening system will be installed in the entire airport in phases. The first batch will be in service starting July 2 at the South and North Departures Immigration Halls in Terminal 1.
Speaking about the launch, Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Operations at AAHK, said in the statement, “The upgrades of the security screening system at HKIA not only further enhance the overall screening performance, but also make mandatory airport procedures more pleasant to passengers, with the existing aviation security standards and requirements remaining intact."
This makes HKIA the world’s first airport to operate smart security screening channels in its entirety.
