Hong Kong’s largest annual hiking fundraising event, Oxfam Trailwalker is back! Held this year from Feb. 24 to 26 with more than 400 local and regional teams taking part, the charity event makes a steady comeback.

The Oxfam Trailwalker pits teams of four to complete the gruelling 100km MacLehose Trail covering a wide expanse of New Territories within a 48-hour time limit. The route is approximately 100 km long, beginning at the Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and finishing at Tai Tong in Yuen Long.

Each participating team must raise a minimum of HK$7,600 in sponsorship, except for Pledge Teams, which must raise a minimum of HK$72,000. Teams that have raised HK$36,000 or above will be offered a special team’s quota for an in-person event at Oxfam Trailwalker 2023.

Since 1986, Oxfam Trailwalker has become one of the biggest fundraising athletic events in Hong Kong, with over 100,000 participants raising over HK$600 million for Oxfam’s poverty alleviation and emergency relief projects in Africa, Asia, Hong Kong, and mainland China.

"The Oxfam Trailwalker experienced and overcame many difficulties over the past three years because of the pandemic. Despite this, Oxfam Hong Kong, like countless Oxfam Trailwalker participants, persevered through it all and worked hard to put this in-person event together," said Bernard Chan, OTW Steering Group convenor.

Despite the difficulty posed by the pandemic, Oxfam Hong Kong have persevered and organised the in-person event. Last year, Oxfam carried out 327 poverty alleviation projects, reaching 2.2 million people.
