Ocean Park is set to expand its red panda family, marking an exciting development in conservation efforts.

This initiative is part of the broader 2023 Sichuan Nature Conservation Week, a joint effort involving the Forestry and Grassland Administration of Sichuan Province (SCFGA), the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, and the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the HKSAR Government. The park's objective is to initiate the breeding of red pandas in Hong Kong and engage in scientific research to contribute to continuing their conservation and repopulation.

While the exact number of new red pandas and their arrival date remains undisclosed, this announcement underscores Ocean Park's commitment to wildlife.

Currently, Ocean Park is home to three red pandas named Tai Shan, Cong Cong, and Rou Rou. Along with the exciting news comes the extension of stay for these three critters for an additional 20 years, ensuring their continued well-being and contribution to conservation education.

During the 2023 Sichuan Nature Conservation Week between now and Nov. 30, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the Giant Panda National Park and the National Botanical Garden. The event will also showcase the 'Park City' development in Chengdu, highlighting the seamless integration of nature and urban living.

A special section will be dedicated to rare animal and plant species, with an XR experience that allows parkgoers to virtually interact with a giant panda cub—offering an educational and immersive encounter.

In addition to this exciting conservation effort, earlier this year, Ocean Park introduced the Sloth and Friends Studio animal exhibit area where visitors can meet two of the park's sloths, Sonic and Ying Mok. This area also features close encounters with ball pythons, macaws, and kinkajous.
